Wait I thought everyone who went in the portal signed with a playoff team and immediately started and signed a multi million dollar NIL deal.
Hmm who knew

MRT - I've gotten down voted and chewed up by posting that Dabo and C media narrative on the portal hurting hs recruiting but it's actually helping. Here's the reason why.

Finite number of schollys, Finite number of college teams. 11000 kids on scholarship per year. So, if 1000 enter, don't get picked, then essentially 1000 high school kids get offered that wouldn't have.

True, teams like prime or usc may take less schollys that maybe a hs would have liked to go to, but they probably wouldn't get recruited to their dream school anyway. So, does that make sense? Some of those portal kids in the portal a couple years, either quit or take a pwo, or even walk on.

Bottom line is a big % of players in the portal are simply going down in class or not signing because they are not good enough. For some players and some teams, the portal may be part of the answer but it will never be The answer.

Not necessarily because they are not good enough. Could be grades or lazy or attitude or an abuser of the devil’s lettuce or any number of things as talent is only one aspect.

"Not good enough" encompasses all that. "Talent" alone is not sufficient, if a player doesn't have drive, coachability, work-ethic, mental-toughness, team-player...

influx of high schoolers to the college ranks, medical redshirts, etc. It is at its worst right now, since there are still "Covid" extra year players exercising that option as well.

These players just take for granted that they will find a new home, and have that scholarship that they don't value at all, be automatically continued somewhere else. You never hear reporting on players that are the odd man out when the musical chairs music stops.
