Annnddd here we go with Kiper

Feb 28, 2023, 9:48 AM

It’s about that time. Clemson prospects are starting to go down on his “board”.

This guy, and McShay, only know a little bit of what they think they’re talking about. One of them gave DW a 2nd round grade.

Bryan Breese maybe should have come back, and I understand him not being seen as a top 10 pick talent right now. But Murphy and Simpson are absolutely both top-15 picks.

NFL coaches and GMs get paid to make good draft decisions.

Some are good at it, others are terrible.

The good ones usually get early rounds correct but also draft starters in late rounds. They also fit FA into the holes in the roster.

If you didn’t play, you do not have the knowledge of being within it. McShay nor Kiper have ever played football, in their lives.

Whereas other guys like Shannon Sharpe, Dan Orlovsky, and Ryan Clark are a little more accurate IMO.

McShay did play the game, walk on QB at Richmond.

Ironic criticizing other guys’ knowledge when you are making stuff up yourself.

Let me guess, is this the anti-Clemson bias I’ve read about here?

The one that’s part of the giant conspiracy to undermine Clemson because they don’t like Christians and are jealous of our success?

LOL.

P.S. Bresee has been underwhelming for most of his career, and often looks stiff. Murphy has loads of raw talent but has earned a reputation for not always putting forth maximum effort. HTH.

I don’t know what you’re really insinuating, but this was not related to the “anti-Clemson bias” that you refer to. I try not to use bias, but people do that on TigerNet Judge.

This is just about who should be regarded as accurate and reliable when it comes to grading football and athletic ability.

So you have a problem with Kiper in general, and

I do agree on both of your points… Bresee more from things that were out of his control but if we are just talking about on the field production you are correct.

Murphy could have been as good as he wanted to be.

What are you basing your analysis of where they should be drafted?

I wouldn't take Murphy in the 1st round. Did he ever take over a game? KJ is better

Breese and Murphy never lived up to their hype on a consistent basis. Breese probably should have come back. Don't see either as top 15 picks.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yep, exactly.

1

Feb 28, 2023, 11:59 AM

Bresee couldn't stay on the field due to injuries and the tragedy with his sister. Murphy was just plain inconsistent. He could be extremely dominant at times, but would also have games where you literally never heard his name mentioned.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think the reality is that ratings until this time of year

Feb 28, 2023, 10:44 AM

and order in the process are less driven by NFL executives, and more driven by other sources. Now we are honing in on the time where it gets more accurate, based on what the scouts and teams are focused on now that they know who is in the draft and who isn't.

So the earlier stuff is just conjecture, this starts to get more informed.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did our guys ever show consistency?

Kiper has never been worth anything and his opinion is like the Colts owner said years ago. McGay is slightly better, but only slightly. Let it play out and don’t worry with these people. Kiper has his picks still left on the board year after year and why worry with idiocracy.

The reality is they are all going to get drafted somewhere and they will get their shot to fulfill their dreams. Clemson was a big part of their development and maturity and I hope they take what they learned and go kick butt.

Completely disagree.

Myles Murphy wasn't very good this year. I would argue there were multiple Clemson defensive linemen better than him. He struggled at times, and seemed to take plays off. That led to him having significantly worse numbers than a typical first round Defensive End. Compare his stats this year with Ferrell's. In his senior year, Clelin had 55 total tackles, 20 for a loss, 11.5 sacks, with 3 forced fumbles. Myles had worse opponents to play, had 40 tackles, 12 for a loss, 6 sacks, and 1 forced fumble.

If Myles had completely dominated the combine, then I think there'd be an argument, but he refused to work out. Were I a GM, I wouldn't risk my early first round pick on him. He seems far too high risk for the reward. I'd skip him and allow KJ (who was undisputedly better) or someone else fall to me in a later round).

Trenton Simpson meanwhile, was great and then had a great combine. Unfortunately, his position hurts him. Linebackers are harder to predict than many other positions, so the only LBs taken that early are those that we know will be absolutely dominant, usually not more than 1 a season (sometimes 2). In 2019, two linebackers were taken top 15, Devin White and Josh Allen (both pro bowlers). In 2020, only one linebacker was taken top 15, Isaiah Simmons. Trenton is great but not close to Simmons, who was maybe the greatest defensive player Clemson ever had and whose measurables were off the charts (better than TS). In 2021, one one linebacker was taken top 15, Micah Parsons (enough said). And in 2022, none were taken top 15.

So you probably should talk about people not knowing what they're talking about when you clearly don't.

You've got the dumbs.***

Based on film Murphy may not be. He definitely gave 60 to 70% effort a lot and coaches can see that. Does he have all the physical tools? Absolutely. But to me I’m not drafting off physical and athletic ability alone. I have to see want to and determination. See Grady Jarrett.

We had a fairly mediocre D to supposedly have three of the top ten college defensive players in this draft.
