Is the ACC still “down” in basketball this year?

After hearing countless assessments on TNet about how bad the league has become, the Elite Eight is looking pretty full of ACC teams.

Brownell just needs a few more years and he will get us there.
The Tiger fan base just lacks patience.

What’s the ACC making up almost half of the Elite Eight

got to do with Brad Brownell?
The fact that the ACC was actually pretty good this year doesn’t affect the fact that Clemson very mediocre this year.

Ok, ok, ok. Seem to recall you defending Brownell before but maybe I'm wrong. Apologies.

No, I haven’t defended Brownell ...

... I’m just one who hasn’t got a lot of high expectations for Clemson hoops.
When I was young I thought differently, but at 72 the years have beaten all that out of me.

I got to say I have no expectations either but am just more than a little disappointed in not just Brownell but all the decision-makers regarding basketball through the years.
I was against renovating Littlejohn but when that decision was made, my low expectations just sank a little lower.
I am convinced we both die before we win the ACC tourney. But good morning!! hahaha

The teams at the top of the league were very good….

Duke was good all year. UNC finished strong. Miami was a good team. Both UNC & Miami could have been seeded higher. Notre Dame was solid.
Va. Tech caught fire late…but for most of the year they were average.
Wake had a good year against a weak schedule…but in retrospect, maybe they should have made it.
UVA was down (for their standards)..which is part of the narrative.
The collapse of Louisville, FSU (due to injuries) and the reluctance of Syracuse and Clemson to take it up a notch also contributed to the narrative.
Throw in the basement teams and all the early season non-conference losses across the board and that’s where the narrative came from.
I think the top was pretty good all along and was undervalued. The middle of the conference is probably the main culprit. Pretty sure that will change next year.

Exactly what I posted last night after Miami won. There should be no more garbage on this site about how we should have won more games because the conference was down.

We absolutely should have won more games….

Conference was still down overall..just not at the top. We lost to several teams that we should have beaten (BC, GT, Louisville, FSU…and lost several home games that we should at least have gotten a couple of) Throw in non-conference losses to teams that ended up being NIT quality…
We definitely should have won more games.

The tournament is not about which are the best teams. It's about which are the hottest teams.

How do we determine the “best” teams if not by how they

... performance over the course of a 64 team tournament?
When Cliff Ellis had the regular season ACC champ in 1989-90, I’d like to think they were the best team in the ACC, but they failed to win the tournament and were stopped in the Sweet 16.
I dunno. I sort of agree on your statement that the hottest teams win the NCAAs, but when three teams from the same conference are on the cusp of the Final Four,I have to think they may be the best teams representing the best conference.
Hard to say for sure.

You can’t tell who the best teams are by watching the games and seeing who wins.
The only way to tell who the best teams are, is by watching ESECPN…….. they’ll let you know what you should be thinking.

as a first-time head coach there. Former Tar Heel player with an NBA career and assistant gigs leading up but no top jobs until now. It gives me more confidence that Greg Buckner could ultimately work here leading our program should an opening arise after next season.
