The NFLPA has to be jealous of CFB right now.

Dec 15, 2021, 2:01 PM

Every CFB player is a pure free agent with no salary cap of any kind, no draft minimum, no contract which binds them in any way. Want to quit mid-season and enter the portal? Sure, won't affect the NIL deal you signed.

One of the reasons I don't watch the NFL is because there is no real bond between team and player like there used to be in CFB. Now CFB is worse and I suspect I will lose interest.

Do you really care about the success of your co-workers that much?

Sure I want them to succeed but would I stay at my job when I'm offered a substantially better one, no.

The NFL may be presented with the word "team" with "players" but they are all companies with employees.

If the top salesmen at a crap company leaves to take a better job with a great company - no one cares.

But if a top player on a crap team leaves to take the same job with a better team they are suddenly selfish?

You're making my point.

I don't blame anybody for changing jobs from company to company, but I don't PULL for companies and an NFL team is basically a company.

CFB was special in that regards, the teams didn't pick the players, the players picked the school and there was a bond set. A player could not get cut if they did the work required, no matter the talent.

The NFL had some free agency which allowed players to jump teams, but they almost always picked a team based off of the money.

Not at all, but maybe the coaches

There aren't many (if any) NFL players that want to go back to college. They are glad to be gone and on their own.

The ones who might be jealous of their college counterparts are NFL coaches. In the NFL, you don't walk away from your contract (there are precious few exceptions to this). For everyone besides Bill Belichick, NFL coaches are hired until fired.
