who on the board is in the Tiger Band?

I noticed during several games this year to include this past Saturday, that during the halftime performance, 10 or so band members remained in the stands and did not take the field. Is this because they missed a practice or meeting during the week? Or are there some other reasons? Just curious is all.

March that day due to illness or injury. Twisted ankles, busted lips etc from playing their instrument are common. Tiger Band is a lot of work. It’s not disciplinary. Sometimes the show that day has more players in a particular section than needed so they get assigned as a Shadow and stay in the stands.

Interesting. I’ve watched practice before. It is a LOT of work. Thanks to your daughter for her part in making the game day environment as good as it gets.

was. I couldn't IMAGINE adding on something that would take up as much time as Tiger Band. I would have had a 0.0 GPA.

One more question argonaut1992®: I had heard band members are not on scholarship. Is this true?
If so, band membership is even more remarkable and very commendable imo!
But just the same, GO TIGER BAND!!!

As far as I know, unless something has changed, Clemson does not offer scholarships for music. It's pretty incredible to see how good our band is and how big it is considering no scholarships are offered. IPTAY puts a lot of money into the band.

Thanks to your daughter for her time and dedication, and for helping to make game day at Clemson such a great experience!
I’m not trying to put you on the spot, but what does the band think about all of the emphasis and attention on the piped in music being played over the loudspeakers before the Tigers run down the hill and during the game these days? Are they generally okay with it? For my money I’d much rather hear the band play, but if they’re cool with it, then I guess I can be too. Thanks!

The acoustics are bad in DeathValley where the band sits.

That combined with roaring crowd noise makes it hard to hear a band even with 300 plus members playing.

Also, when I was in Tigerband years ago we had "alternates" that filled in when someone fell ill or had an emergency and couldn't perform that day for whatever reason. The alternates would come and play music in the stands with the band but just did not march until they were needed. Maybe that is what is going on too.
