A true story from just a few minutes ago . . .

When my now 7 year old was an infant until about 3 years old, on the nights I tucked her in, I would sing to her "You've Got a Friend in Me" (the Randy Newman song used in Toy Story) and Tiger Rag.
I don't tuck her in much any more - work, she's getting older, she likes to read until past bedtime, etc.
She's feeling a little under the weather tonight and Mom is out (shooting dice and gettin liquored up with the women folk, I guess - but I digress), so she asked me to stay with her a little bit.
I sang her "You've Got a Friend" and kissed her goodnight. She said "Are you leaving already?"
I said, "Well, yeah, it's late and you need your rest."
She said, "But Daddy, would you please sing Tiger Rag to me?"
What a gift . . .

You've got a friend in me You've got a friend in me When the road looks rough ahead And you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed You just remember what your old pal said You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me You've got a friend in me You've got troubles, I got 'em too There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you We'll stick together and we'll see it through Cause you've got a friend in me
Now some people might be a little bit smarter than I am Bigger and stronger too But none of them will ever love you the way I do It's me and you, boy
And as the years go by Our friendship will never die You're gonna see that it's our destiny You've got a friend in me Yeah, you've got a friend in me
I think I got that right from memory. Thanks for sharing your story.

You've got a friend in me, Savannah You've got a friend in me When the road looks rough ahead And you're miles and miles from your nice warm bed You just remember what your old DAD said (He said)You've got a friend in me
You've got a friend in me You've got a friend in me You've got troubles, I got 'em too There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you We'll stick together and we'll see it through Cause you've got a friend in me
Now some people might be a little bit smarter than I am Bigger and stronger too But none of them will ever love you the way I do It's me and you, girl
And as the years go by Our friendship will never die You're gonna see that it's our destiny You've got a friend in me Yeah, you've got a friend in me (and always will) You've got a friend in me !

Clemson Lyrics
Clemson "Tiger Rag"
Long ago way down in the jungle Someone got an inspiration for a tune And that jingle came from the jungle Became famous mighty soon Thrills and chills it sends through you Hot so hot it burns you too Though it's just the growl of the Tiger It was written in a syncopated way More and more they yell for the Tiger Everywhere you go today, they're shoutin: Where's that Tiger? Where's that Tiger? Where's that Tiger? Where's that Tiger? Hold that Tiger! Hold that Tiger! Hold that Tiger! C-L-E-M-S-O...N!

21 years ago, I use to rock and sing to my daughter as well. Her favorite was, 'Jesus Loves the Little Children'.
You go Dad!!!

she'll still let/want you to sing it when she's 22, if you can do it without choking up.

I figured if I put that in the 1st post, I'd get pelted with rocks and garbage - - but I forgot, all the young punks are out chasing skirt.
I like TNet on Friday nights !
