Dabo Swinney/neat moment

Dabo Swinney is getting blasted, again, by members of the national media after his remarks about how college football needs to change. What they are all afraid to admit is that he's right. But there is a side they don't get to see......
He walked out of the locker room after the game and made fun of me for wearing extra layers (you look like an Eskimo, he said), and then went out and did interviews in the wind and cold. We were all freezing. And when he walked out, he could have gone straight to the warmth and gotten away from it all.
Instead, he saw that a crew of people were loading the last of the TV equipment on a truck. They were all tired and working hard, and he went out of his way to thank them for their hard work, to thank them for coming to Death Valley, and then he shook the hand of everyone one of them and asked them their names while introducing himself.
When he finally left, after listening to them, one of them turned to me and said, "I wish I had taken a picture. I have been doing this a long time and no coach has ever talked to me. That was pretty cool." The side most people don't get to see.

It's obvious what kind of person Dabo is...

so I don't think he really cares about what Twitter is saying about him.
He is basically an educator, and we know good ones when we see them.

I think I agree with the point you are making but calling Dabo an educator almost seems to fall short to me. I know lots of educators with phDs and lots of other letters after their names that “educate” young people with book learning but don’t have nearly the impact that Dabo does on those around him. He teaches those around him on the subject of life and how to be better all around people. He also teaches that by example as this article shows. We can all learn life lessons by watching this man.

and just over about halfway done with my PhD actually. Anyway, there are teachers who just do the bare minimum and simply teach content (excluding college professors in this post btw). Those teachers usually don't last too long.
Saying that calling Dabo an great educator falls short of describing him as a man who positively impacts people's lives shows me that you know very little about the profession of being an educator. It's not a slam because most think they do but don't.

I didn’t say that. Good educators definitely have a positive impact in their student’s lives. I’m just saying IMO Dabo impacts more aspects of their lives than most educators because of the way he leads by example with his actions. But I will stand by my comment that I know a lot of people who emphasize the string of letters behind their name and have very little practical ability and even less people skills. And like every group of people there are some that are better at what they do than others.

Possibly some teachers are hung up on what degrees they obtain or what research they do, but I think that's probably more at the university level.
I haven't really met any as you describe at the Pre-K through 12 level.
If you don't have social skills, you're going to have a hard time teaching math to a bunch of teenagers, trust me.
I will leave you this funny TikTok (actually a bit from Lewis CK).

And just to be clear - a lot of the people I am describing that have more letters behind their name than they have skills or sense are not teachers (but some are). I ran across most of them in the business world. It does take a special type of person to be a teacher in K-12. And I readily admit that is not what I was cut out for.

I worked in the corporate world and was very successful at it. Opened a small business in Latin America and did it just to help fund the company. It's weird how life works, ain't it?
Being a teacher though has taught me a lot about myself; it's a grind man, trust me.

Dabo is a builder. While others are looking for things & people to tear down, Dabo just keeps on building up....and he's relentless at it.
Way to go Dabo!!!

Great Post David, Dabo is special in ways that have nothing to do with winning football games.

That’s our coach, people hate on Dabo because like so many today they assume he’s fake but he says what he means and he means what he says. He’s as genuine as they come wouldn’t trade him for the world

none of the pieces or tweets or what have you involve an actual interview with the man from the writer or poster. They have always been takes on something Dabo has said to someone else, a reaction to an incomplete picture. Conversely, I can't recall a single hit job or dig that resulted from a one-on-one interview where Dabo is afforded the opportunity to provide nuance or address a specific question or position directly. Mostly those others are rooted in laziness or clickbaiting, and the motives questionable.
Go Dabo! Go Tigers!

I honestly do not believe that there is anything Dabo could do and not be criticized for. Dabo could give away every penny he has ever made and they would criticize him. Dabo could go undefeated for 20 straight years and they would criticize him. Dabo could single handiedly save Earth from asteroids every day for a year……. and they’d criticize him.
The sooner the lying dirtbags die, the better this planet will be.
