Speaking of Kiffin (Auburn related)

Nov 17, 2022, 8:28 AM

More and more folks are reporting that Kiffin is the top target of Auburn. Most are saying they expect him to take the job. Just go to youtube and search "Lane Kiffin." The first page of the options will be filled with reports about him and Auburn.

My speculation is that Jimmy Sexton is just trying to maximize the size and length of the contract. He's a master at doing that. (Getting Ole Miss and Auburn into a bidding war would be his usual modus operandi. The size of his Auburn contract probably depends on how much Ole Miss is willing to pay to keep him.)

It would not surprise me if the sticking point is a buyout.

Auburn is probably already still paying two or more former head coaches buyouts. They may want to try and cut down on their liability on the next one, and Jimmy Sexton won't let them pull any tricks, HE wants to have all the tricks.

:)

Someone said Mississippi schools cannot sign a coach to a contract longer than 5 years without some kind of special waiver due to state laws. Kiffen and Leach only signed through 2025. Seems like Kiffen might be in the market for a 10 year deal to set himself up for retirement. Even with a close up view of the A&M train wreck Auburn might be he school to do it.

I think he has already taken the job, just waiting on the season to end for an announcement, he is probably getting a contract with a hefty pay raise with a lot of it guaranteed.

I agree.

I think he has accepted the job and they are just waiting until after the Egg Bowl to announce it. Kiffin is probably in the final stages of assembling his staff.
