Went to book a condo in Florida for a guys fishing trip. Here's what happened:
1 - found a good place 2 - put in dates 3 - VRBO asked for my CC # 4 - VRBO billed me for the 3 nights 5 - Website came back and said the property wasn't available those nights 6 - Charge still on card 7 - VRBO says I need to contact the owner, but the charge is from VRBO, though they say can't refund it.
I am not paying it. They can sue me.

Don't do that - welcome to a new CC number - UNLESS you

do the COOL thing I do.
Have them issue a 2nd card to you - new number - tied to same account.
Use THAT card for all stored, repeating charges.
Keep the other card for one offs, using out in the wild, etc.
Lazy aholes that steal your digits usually get them out in the wild - so now you won't have to remember and "fix" all your recurring.
YOU. ARE. WELCOME.

VRBO is becoming more and more unreliable...

especially for quick getaways and last minute trips. So many of the renters don't keep their calendar updated. So the system shows the dates available...let's you book it, only to have the owner come back the next day and tell you it's rented.

are listed on multiple sites with different calendars. The beach house we're getting this summer was on AirBNB, VRBO, and a property management site.

We ran into this problem and they double booked the house

and didn't let us know until like a month before vacation. Their response was "Sorry, we will release the funds in 7-10 days." I think the house was north of $6k.
We pushed back BIG TIME, or at least as much as we could, and got a better house for the rate we were paying for that house, but it was a real pain to get it completed. They acted like they were doing us a real big favor.

VRBO Update....#facepalm edition
Jun 3, 2021, 3:06 PM
|
|
VRBO said to dispute the charge with my CC, which I did. Keep in mind the charge on my CC was from VRBO, not the owner.
Then they said to contact the owner and ask to cancel, which I did. He said he to cancel the reservation through the website, but I had no res. to cancel. He said contact VRBO because he doesn't receive funds until a guest checks in.. OK. The owner said it was refunded but I told him all I show on my CC is a dispute placeholder credit.
Then VRBO said we can't cancel the res. because you disputed it on your CC. I said that's what VRBO told me to do.
They said the agent you spoke to was incorrect in telling me to contact my CC company. I said I don't care, too late.
All has been documented and sent to the CC fraud team.
Dey ain't gettin' a doller...
