Matthew will stay out at sea. And here's why

Oct 5, 2016, 10:21 AM

NO hurricane in recorded history has been where Matthew is and made landfall in SC. It's also weakened greatly and is now a CAT2. The governor's press conference should have taken place this afternoon and hopefully she ends the mandatory evacuation of a few million people. Make it mandatory for every county within 20 miles of the ocean. 100 miles inland is overkill for this storm if it headed straight for us.

Kind of like Corso's picks on Game Day

I will still never forget the blizzard we were supposed to have in Columbia. Old Ben Tanner over at WIS should not have his job anymore. Computer models said we'd get like 8+ inches of snow. We got sunshine, and 50-something degrees. The entire city was shut down for absolutely no reason. Millions were lost in productivity. He has underpicked every snow event since.

They did the same thing in the Upstate not too long ago

Oct 5, 2016, 10:36 AM

Maybe it was two years ago. I dunno, all I remember is watching Wyff and they were telling me it was snowing at my house, but all I could see was rain.

Well, she's walking back the evacuations

Oct 5, 2016, 10:39 AM

Does that mean Lexington and Richland County schools can reopen as they will not be evacuating millions? Guess we will see. Will I be able to get to Walterboro tomorrow to do what I was supposed to do today? Will my conference in Myrtle Beach still go on schedule?

Stay tuned for further instructions from the governor. She may end up doing more damage then the hurricane. We will see.

I can totally agree with that.

I guess so, 2 major hurricanes in 11 years ain't bad

Oct 5, 2016, 11:59 AM

There were a couple of years before that where Florida seemed like it was getting hit by 2 or 3 a year.

gulf stream ftfw

Oct 5, 2016, 3:14 PM

SE GA native here (SSI) - we're immune to hurrincanes having that bad of an impact for two reasons:
1- continental shalf goes straight from Miami-ish to Outer Banks ish.
2- Gulf stream goes from gulf of mehiko to england

between these two, they carry the storms along side the coast, or create such a pressure point that the storms often turn to hit SC/NC coast. In addition we have all the barrier islands alongside the mainland, so just gotta go over the bridge to brunswick to be safe.
