We will have a pretty easy route to the playoffs if we sit tight in the ACC, but the $50 million we leave on the table every year by sitting tight will come back to bite us.
We need to try and get a seat at the big boy table.

Wow! There may be money on someone’s table, but the costs to the loyal fans was certainly not a consideration. Perhaps the NIL contributions could be “given” to the supportive twelfth man for travel, tickets, and accommodations.

"..."The proposal calls for the bracket each year to include the six highest-ranked conference champions...
Look for the conference championship games to be eliminated and the SEC and the BIG to break into 2 separate conferences (i.e. divisions), thus allowing for more teams from each to be invited

This whole playoff and then the squealing for playoff expansion has been driven entirely by media types who want college football to be like the NFL. Why??? If you like the NFL and it’s playoffs then by all means have at it. Why did you feel it necessary to destroy the pageantry and traditions of the greatest game? As others are saying you will have key players sitting out 2-3 games a year now being saved for the semifinals and championship game. The amount of sheer stupidity and pure greed running rampant at upper levels of sports, broadcasting, government and corporate America is overwhelming.

They specifically made it around the 24-25 season because thats when all the big name schools will be making their move in the new conferences. They'll be expecting just a 2 Mega conferences in the near future anyway.

Basketball takes 68 (ish) teams and every year someone is whining about being left out. The difference now is the 13th team will whine instead of the 5th team. We will also see a players union wanting their share of the loot so college football will soon be NFL lite

I would hope this would shut people that have been screaming for expansion the F up.
However, you just know there will be people still screaming for a 16 team playoff, that the top 4 having 1st round bye's are not fair..... wahhhh.
Makes me sick.

I agree...nothing wrong with 8, but...with 8, # 8 would play #1...
Sep 2, 2022, 9:43 PM
|
|
in a 12 team format, the biggest disparity would be #5 playing #12, and more than likely, there is usually less difference between # 5 and #12, than between #1 and #8. Blowouts would be more likely when #1 plays #8, than when #5 plays #12!
This goes along with the usual argument that there isn't much difference between the teams ranked from about #5 through #10-12

This is exactly what eSECpn is looking for. Four of the Five Power Conferences get their conference champion in. Notre Dame gets in. One mid major school like Cincinnati gets in. The SEC gets the other six spots.

SEC will place 4-5 team$, B1G 2-3 team$, others 1 team ea¢h
Sep 2, 2022, 5:29 PM
|
|
The SEC will annually get ~4 teams in the playoffs. This will boost recruiting for SEC schools because (1) recruits want to sign with teams that have a good shot at making the playoffs, and (2) the SEC schools will get even more money to upgrade facilities that draw recruits.
Same goes for the B1G, except that they'll probably get 2-3 teams in the playoffs.
The ACC will likely only get 1 team in the playoffs, so this will make the ACC weaker, and ultimately hurt Clemson if Clemson stays in the ACC.
This rewards schools like Texas, Oklahoma, USC & UCLA for moving from conferences where they were perennial conference-title-contenders to conferences where they have little chance of winning the conference.

Depending on what ACC team you are referring to.
If Miami, FSU, and VT start playing ball again or maybe even North Carolina(because of their following) - they would be included along with the conference Champ: Clemson! < - - - see how I did that?
The same SEC - it just means more argument has been out there since Tebow and Spurrier at Florida. Miami, FSU, and Clemson still recruit with the best of them. Sometimes North Carolina and NC State too!
These kids now have more of a business mind about things! Will they want to play ball in the so-called, "gauntlet of the SEC"?
Less about making the playoffs for recruits - more than likely about who can give NIL money! And, who can assist in getting them to the "real money" in the league? Go to a top-tier SEC school or a lower-tier one and get beat up. If they go to the top-tier SEC school they might get to start by the time they are a senior. Or maybe the Freshman who has a bunch of hype starts over them. All of this shortens your ultimate goal of "playing in the NFL or impairs it"!
The rest of what you are saying maybe all of it is what will happen. I just don't buy the part about what it's going to do to the ACC. Because all of these advantages have been around for a long time.

The playoff mini-season (good). The advantage of the ranked top four bye-week is an advantage that 5-12 won’t be able to overcome. They have to put all on the line or go home while 1-4 gets to go into the 2nd round fresh. Will the second round pan out to be watchable?

Clemson Should Be Playoff Bound Yearly Then!
Sep 2, 2022, 6:44 PM
|
|
Based on reputation alone - Clemson if having a fine season should make the playoffs. If you are a person that believes it's easy to win in the ACC - It shouldn't be a question.
The key will be where is Clemson placed in the playoff. Will super-conference teams only play each other? If so, it gives teams on the outside no opportunity to boost their strength of schedule. Because of that lack of strength of schedule; you end up at a large bid. Which means an extra game against a quality opponent. More time to heal late-season wounds. More time for their top teams to scout you.
This is where the best of the rest not in a super-conference can help each other! The top teams need to as best they can(based on recent historical data) schedule contenders to play. Even with a loss; if you playing well, chances are good you are still in.
Lots of ways teams will approach this. Have to see how the formation of the super conferences affects things.

It's doesn't make sense, well what I meant was who thinks this is better, the best teams win in the current model, oh money, but why water it down, oh money again, why am I not surprised, #### money again. Never thought I'd argue for less football but it's going to be the equivalent of a cupcake first game at the end of the season for the best teams after they beat each other.
