It's in over a 100 million homes included in most packages with most every major satellite and cable provider. Basically most everyone with sat or cable is paying for it.

It's only on the upper tier sports package for Uverse.

Along with the Longhorn network, CBSSports and the Outdoor channel.
So it is considered premium package that you have to pay extra for to get.
Naturally I won't spend money for that crap.

even though they've only released the first three weeks of football schedule for it and other than the USCjr/A&M game nothing really else is worth watching, I can only assume they will have some more good games on later in the year

Hmmmm? I wonder if that will be any less entertaining than some of our games that will have less than 40,000 in the stands? You know the ones that the fans bring Thundersticks to the game and they pipe in sounds to make it appear like we actually have a crowd at the game? Inquiring minds want to know.

Nobody is paying for it in the traditional sense. Not one single carrier that signed up to broadcast the network has required any customer to pay more for the channel to be added. If you have the digital tier (i.e. if you receive espnu for example)it is available at no additional cost.

The providers are footing the bill atm to provide the channel (if you have the right package and provider). They will choose whether or not to make subscribers pay for it later.

Sec network is in my cable package.
One week before football starts and the programming is awful. Finebaum is showing how bad a talk show can be for 3-4 hours per day. They play hokey touchy feely looks back at rhis or that school or player every night. Who wants to see Bo Jackson or Herschel Walker again? The world has seen those stories 1000 times already.
This week they are hyping TAMU vs SC as if that game would not be on tv w/o the Sec network.
So basically is more boring ex-jocks and oddballs a lot of hours per week. Another espnx channel. Ho-hum.

Included with Directv package that I have - so no EXTRA charges for me. I won't subscribe to it when it costs me more to get a separate package. But - I will watch football games on it while it's free to me. In fact, I already have it set to record the USUC/TAM game as you can record 12 days in advance. I find it hard to believe that college football fans would NOT watch a hard-fought fb game just because it is not in our conference. At least watch it and pull for TAM - it's your DUTY.

"the millions" are willing to pay more for it when it is not part of the package already being subscribed to and I suspect that most sec fans can't afford pay tv now must less when the option is more expensive. McD's and waffle house wages only provide luxuries like cigarettes and beer not pay tv football games.

It's espn. They will lump it into whatever package they have to in order make it profitable and force most people to buy it whether they want it or not. I hope espn does the sane for acc network if for no other reason but the east coast basketball. Should be as much or more demand for that than sec football so in theory could actually make more money for the acc

ACC has a fairly large footprint

More teams compete in basketball due to more tourneys and larger ones, more games....it's not an entirely unbiased view.

My comment about the success basketball will bring to an acc network is based on population totals in the acc footprint. From Miami to Boston, Also look at the gambling on college basketball. That drives a lot of ratings even on marginally popular teams

ESPN's problem is the providers will not simply lump it in. That was ESPN's plan from the beginning and it did not happen. They actually struggled to get many carriers to agree to tier 3. I do think you are correct with ACC basketball. Also olympic sports will get more coverage in the ACC with teams like ND, Duke, and UNC carrying a national brand.

It is on the basic tier for Comcast in the SEC footprint, but that is the only basic package that carries it.
