So, what happened in 1 yr to go from 30-0 win there to 1 pt loss

Nov 26, 2022, 6:43 PM

at Death Valley with home team ranked in top 8, had nation's longest home winning streak, home field & fan size advantage, yada-yada-yada?

Well, one thing was Coots picking up on an All-American QB transfer who had done great 1st year at OK, then maybe read his early Heisman praise the 2nd year (Soph slump maybe too) and got benched..

and Boom he's in Columbia for his 3rd year but still in a slump (8 TDs & 9 INT) until race-boating a high-flying TENN O team but one with no D..

and new life was instilled overnight into a mediocre team since they finally had a 6 TD in one game passer in Rattler and they saw Clemson's QB was still a Rattler-like liability since he hadn't been resurrected as their's was in one game but instead had been hit up at Notre Dame and was still shaky and vulnerable..

and thus Coots licked their beaks and planned to make us run first and then have DJ do his passing -running routine and see what happened.

With this one important transfer mentioned above (which ultimately helped them as I posted in Sept it would by at least 2 more games won)..

do you know what other events helped Coots turn a 0-30 loss at home to a 31-30 win in DV in a year?

Maybe better question is what Clemson didn't do!

They found a better QB than what they had. We didn’t.

The team with the best QB usually wins.

We had transfers out, they got transfers in.

Nov 26, 2022, 6:47 PM

We lost BV and TE and downgraded big time with both replacement hires. We saw the result.

BV yes. TE? Yeah, not missing him.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't miss TE either but he's better than Streeter

I thought Elliott should have been fired anyway so I was happy when he got the head coaching gig, but still better than our current OC.

QB situation and South Carolina went to the portal and did something about theirs. We did not need DJ last year and just ran the ball. Our defense was better but they really didn't have an offense of qb to do anything. Had they gone to their backup last year Dekarion Joyner, they might have been in that game too. They did so vs North Carolina one game later.

Turnovers and South Carolina simply wanted it more than we did. Last year has nothing to do with this year and if our players thought it did, they learned a hard lesson.

Last year we ran the ball down their throats. We pretty much did the same in the first half this year. And then we decided to rely on DJ's passing in the second half. Bye bye Playoff and home winning streak.

Turnovers, turnovers, turnovers.

They had 2 very costly turnovers as well, so that evens out.
We lost because we weren’t content to grind out an ugly win on the ground when it was evident that DJ was having an off day.

After we let Rattler settle down and start making plays

Nov 26, 2022, 7:46 PM

We definitely needed to stick with the run game to keep him on the bench.

But nooooo... we hads to go and gets all cutesy

Brent Venables is the answer. The offense is still as stale as last year.

Coots found a QB

Nov 26, 2022, 7:41 PM

that simple really. When they finally just turned him loose the last two games, great things happened

People forget that their QB last year was a transfer from Dolly Madison.

QB play is huge difference between years

CU staff plays not to lose and does not recognize or call out players that can not or will not perform
