Charity

Received this NextDoor invitation. They're not giving money directly to the organization, or welcoming a homeless person into their home, or directly helping the homeless.
Instead, folks in this private gated community (with gates to make sure the homeless stay out) will put some tea-lights outside their shiny nice homes. This won't be seen by any homeless folks, and a fraction of the money will go to the charity.
I can't wait for the video where the neighborhood sings Imagine.

Drive to downtown Columbia. Find a homeless person, it's not hard. Give them $20.

I would drive downtown Columbia, find a homeless person, give them a Zebco 202 combo from Walmart.

Some of the guys on our team witnessed him paying homeless dudes $20 to let him tackle them at full speed.
After the first homeless guy got tackled, there were 2 more there than ran off / changed their mind.

The posted neighborhood is right next to the Walmart

The built a big ole wall to block off Walmart and patrons, and continually post messages about the homeless folks lingering just outside the hood.
But yeah, they should light up some lights to give those people hope while ignoring them every single day.

Makes delivering those Zebco 202 combos a whole lot easier.

Gregg Park is UDP compared to KG

GP hired lawyers trying to rezone which school they are assigned. They pretend it's for education (even though most of the kids go to Hammond/Heathwood) when everybody knows they're trying to get an artificial house price bump.
We moved out of KG. Had many friends 1-on-1, but the group pissing contests and bubble were out of control. Lack of self-awareness was killing us. Now surrounded by great normal neighbors that are better diversified (and their kids are not dooshbags).

Old versus new money. Happens all the time.

GP is the old(er) money. What they lack in dollars, they make up for in clout.
But the older money is in Lake Katherine/Forest Acres. And the oldest money perhaps is in Forest Hills. They have a literal wall between them and the hood. $35K houses and across the street, literally, and behind a wall, are $500K+ homes. Manning Avenue, connecting Taylor and Gervais. Drive it sometime. No more stark a contrast anywhere that I know of.

I love that the street there is marked no left turn...

so it's illegal to turn left into that neighborhood if you are coming from the poor area of town. A friend of mine who bought on the edge of the neighborhood decided that the no left turn signs weren't enough and petitioned to get gates along that whole side of the neighborhood.
The oldest money is probably nestled in Heathwood and on Tanglewood, etc, though.

Now it's clear that it blocks cars turning in from the rougher areas.
