but Joseph Wapner was the original television Judge that started it all. He was presiding in the People's Court long before Judge Judy, Judge Joe Brown, Judge Jerry Springer and all of them copycats! Give this Judge the credit he deserves as the original.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0133300/Divorce Court (TV Series 1957–1984) - IMDb Divorce Court: With Voltaire Perkins, Bill Welsh, Ian Abercrombie, William Hunt. An early example of reality-based courtroom drama, "Divorce Court" presented cases where divorcing couples presented their stories before Judge Voltaire Perkins, who always rendered his decision by the end of the program and resolved other divorce issues. Many cases involved accusations of cruelty, adultery, desertion, alcohol abuse and irreconcilable differences often with many strange twists and turns.
My brother and I had to endure watching this every afternoon while the help was babysitting us.

I bet many of you didn’t know that Wopners assistant in that show, Doug Lewellan, was a Spartanburg boy. Wopner lived to be almost 100 and I think Doug is still alive. He is about my age. My Dad doctor in Spartanburg was Doug brother I think.
