That would be a cut block and its legal. I don't like it, but they will be doing it all day. Now a chop block is a different story.

We can play 3 feet off the line and they will throw themselves on the ground trying to do cut blocks

It's legal but if you watch them against a team with a decent D line you'll notice that if they can't get a push off the line then their option doesn't work very well. Thomas has to drop back and pass to one of his big receivers and that may not go over well with the Clemson D.
