Have you actually rubbed Howard's Rock and run down the hill? Both of my kids loved to do that at every opportunity.
The first time I did it was my freshman year in 1980-81. I had never been to Clemson before my freshman year. It gave me chills then, and I still get chills when the players run down the hill today.

I know I rubbed it the year it was installed.... but can't remember if I followed up with the descent down the hill.

Back in the mid 70’s, the gate at the top of the hill would be left open or unlocked quite regularly. A friend of mine and I, several times, walked down to the Valley from B-5 with a football and into that gate. Of course we would rub the rock and run down the hill to the field.
My friend had been a PK in high school, so I would spot the balls and he would kick 35, 40, 45 yard field goals for about 30 min. Then we would throw passes back and forth on the field.
Surprisingly, no one ever ran us off the field and we would sometimes be there an hour or more.
I can attest that on the first run down the hill, you get a true sense of how deceptively steep that hill is!!

2005 Military Appreciation Game vs Texas A&M. Touched the rock and Walked down the Hill at Halftime by Service Branch for halftime dedication. It was awesome! The stadium was going crazy! I’ll never forget it.

A girl I was going out with at the time and I went and played catch and attempted to kick field goals in 88. We had a great time! Never had anyone say anything to us. Those were the days
Oh and we of course rubbed the rock and jogged down the hill

With so many good stories. Back when they had a chain link fence around the Valley, a buddy (who lived in a prefab) and I were climbing the fence when we got run off. A bunch of beer was involved.
Those were the days.
