Remember, remember the slew of Byrnes tenders from 2007

Jul 7, 2012, 7:32 PM

The pipeline of recruits that year included:

LB Stanley Hunter - Fun player with a ton of potential whose career was cut short due to his battle with epilepsy. I still think of him anytime I see a #17 Clemson uniform.

WR Xavier Dye - Big game potential--seen as the guy who would take over for Aaron Kelly--but he never lived up to the hype. He brought a lot of criticism when he transferred to Byrnes for his senior year, and even more when he almost quit the Clemson team after Clear passed him on the depth chart.

QB Willy Korn - The all-world high school quarterback who couldn't live up to the superman-level expectations that all of Clemson nation put on him. Battled injuries, was passed on the depth chart by Kyle Parker, and eventually transferred after being one of the highest profile quarterback recruits to ever sign with us. (In response to Korn's commitment, we stopped recruiting a little fella named Tim Tebow who ended up doing pretty good.)

Now I'm not knocking any of these men. My girlfriend taught Willy Korn while he was at Clemson, and the guy is just an all-around good person who comes from a strong family background...things just didn't pan out for him. But when we inked these guys, almost falling completely out of the spotlight that day was a guy named Chad Diehl. Diehl was perceived by many as an add-on player to our 3 primary targets above, but low and behold, the least hyped of the bunch ended up being the best player day-in and day-out for us.

The point of all this? Let the coaches do their thing, and let the situation play out. As much fun as I have following recruiting and getting excited about what tomorrow may bring, there's just too much uncertainty to get your #### panties in a wad every time something changes.

I agree. I saw several games Byrnes played on tv and was more impressed with Hunter's play than I was with any other player. It seemed he was involved in or near every play the other team ran.

Clemson showed a great deal of class in their treatment of young Mr. Hunter after his illness made football an impossibility. More than just keeping his scholarship and the education, the football staff made Hunter a part of the team.....I fully expect to see him coaching in the future

was very awesome about it. This was at one of the "Be a T.I.G.E.R." days. He saw the jersey and called her over.

Re: Also, we offered Browning to get Crosby

Jul 7, 2012, 8:40 PM

Crosby had a lot of stuff happen to him that wasn't really his fault, and as a result he didn't meet expectations, while Browning became a special teams phenom and rooskie touchdown machine.

Wrong about Tebow

Jul 7, 2012, 8:46 PM

He was a year before Korn anyway

You're right he was, but you're forgetting something

Korn committed to us as a junior.

Not saying Tebow would've committed to us had it not been for Korn's family's request to back off of him, but I do know Tebow had Clemson near the top of his list and was a big fan of Bowden.
