Never thought Mexico would cut a check.
Possible that it could be partially funded by additional revenue steams from trade policy.

The USMCA that just passed the house has that offsetting shift in revenue. 75% of an automobile in the US must now be made in the US under the agreement so, yeah that’s Mexico giving up $$ to the US. Estimated investment is $34 Billion in the automotive industry. And this is just automotive.

How does that make them pay for our wall? That's a stretch.

They aren't paying indirectly. It's just a new trade deal and nothing is allotted for the wall.

I thought we pretty much established in the 90's that honesty and integrity were passé.
To address the original question - who the heck sits around and talks about that?
I for one am probably ignoring a thread on the subject and avoiding a "party" where people are discussing this. This just seems like the go to question when liberals get frustrated.
I do not like or hate Trump, so I don't think I am as emotionally invested in this as you.
So let me give a sensible and rational scenario: the issue is NOT whether Mexico builds the wall - the issue is that the wall gets built (and I don't know that I necessarily believe the wall needs to be built myself).
So voting on the issue of building the wall is independent of Mexico's participation. Oh sure, it has had the media and liberal panties wadded up since Trump trolled them. People who voted for Trump supported the wall being built period and I gather they will be happy if it is built regardless of who builds it.
If Dabo says we are going to beat OSU by throwing four touchdown passes and we instead beat them by having four rushing TDs, I'm not going to be upset.

It's rational question. It was Trump's number 1 promise in his campaign. It was an outrageous claim. Its something any rational person would talk about unless they want to avoid it. Trump mentioned it at nauseum every rally. He would yell to his huge audience, "Who's going to pay for the wall?" The entire crowd would scream back at the top of their lungs, "Mexicooo!!!". It would be odd for people not to mention it.

You are familiar with Trump before he became POTUS, no?
Everything about him is sensational. He is a megalomaniac. Now I'm sure there are naîve people out there who don't see Trump for who he is, but what I am saying nobody but the people who DO NOT WANT the wall built care that he even said Mexico was going to build it.

I want the wall built and I care that he said it. It was ludicrous. I am one of the libs who is anti those immigrants. That said, I think he should be called out for such an outrageous laughable promise. It was too nuts. You're wrong on this one franc. It matters. I want Mex to pay for it too. If we are going to pay for it, it should be acknowledged that the charlatan running the show is full of it. I am cool with us building it though.

Okay....

A few things:
1) The poster below points out how Mexico will pay for it. Now I do not know all the financial and political workings of this, but even when he made those claims, HE DID INDEED clarify that that was how Mexico would pay for it. He never claimed Mexico was going to write us a check.
2) Even with that fact, I stand by my assertion that Trump is a sensationalist and even a blowhard. We saw it in the names he called his rivals. I count many of his grandiose claims to his personality. It's like saying on the mange that we are going to beat OSU 31-0 again. I hope we do, but if we win 31-30, I'll be just as happy.
3) Thinking of people who voted for Trump - if the wall gets built and Mexico doesn't build it, do you think they will believe he kept his promise or not? I believe they will say he kept his promise. It has nothing to do with defending him regardless of what he does. They just want the wall built.
4) I have stated I neither like or hate Trump. I voted for him and based on the retreads and young socialist choices we have this round I will vote for him again. I think the dems that are running the circus are inept. They have been grasping at straws the last 3 years to try to get rid of Trump and have accomplished nothing for their causes (aside from, with the help of a complicit media, highlighted the spineless republicans in office).
5) I think Trump has lied about things worse than this Mexico claim. Still, nothing worthy of impeachment.
6) This whole impeachment thing is a circus. As I have stated, this is ALL the dems have done the past 3 years. It makes me think they have no substantive ideas. Just whining because Trump is a big meanie (and I do think Trump acts very inappropriate socially, which bothers me...still not enough to vote for any of the 753 dems running).
7) While the dems and the media drag this joke out day after day, Trump continues to strike deals with China and Mexico and has actually accomplished more of what he said than any POTUS I remember. Could have done a lot more if many of the pubs weren't spineless. EVERYBODY CAN SAY WELL HE'S NOT DOING IT HOW HE SAID HE WAS GOING TO DO IT. First, and again, that has always been Trump - sensational attention #####. Second, it is how he has always negotiated. In business, he has always overstated his position which, in reality, is very effective in getting opponents to give up more ground than they intended.

I became more invested in this thread than I wanted.
And if what you say is true, there will be no wall absent a turnover of power in 2020 or the following midterm. We could potentially be having impeachment hearings until 2024.

Lock Hillary up never got under our skin. We didn't even really like Hillary and we knew she would never get locked up. The trade deal doesnt in any way indirectly have Mexico pay for the wall.

I am sure your broke anyway. On a serious note, you're clueless as usual. No,CNN and MSNBC were not disgusted by lock her up. They thought it was bizarre and almost laughable. You must have rarely watched those channels. They thought Trump seemed unfit for office. As far the trade deal indirectly making Mexico pay 12 billion for our wall, if you actually believe that is fact, you're an absolute imbecile. We do not know how the trade deal will pan out in that regard. Then to top ot all off, Congress has to allocate the money for the wall. They won't unless the Dems are voted out. If that doesn't happen, then there is no wall and things are the status quo with no wall that that Mexico paid for. You're ignorant.

Ahh I hit a nerve. I always worked for myself, but I don't need to work bud, nor will i need to work again. No..I travel, watch sports, and goof around. I will continue to do that until I die. Anyway, back to the other topic of how funds are allocated. I am glad I could educate you. You're very welcome. Mexico will not be paying for our wall as things stand now.

the conversation has digressed....

but it is an accurate reflection of what is happening in Washington.
Carlsbad said he is for the wall. Yet, I would guess that if the wall is built AND if Mexico directly wrote a check to us, he would not support Trump.
What we have seen from day 1 are the dems in total shock Trump won the election. Instead of actually doing anything, they have put all of their energy into trying to show how the election was illegitimate and showing Trump to be unfit for office. Before Trump even had a chance to do anything, its been a stream of accusations of how hasn't kept his promises (like he could do them right out of the gate).
I happen to believe that the minority communities that are financially way better off than they have ever been in the history of this country care about this circus about as much as people did that Clinton was getting favors from 20 year old interns in the Oval Office.
I truly understand someone not liking Trump personally. But I'm afraid there is going to be a lot of beating of chests and gnashing of teeth come next November. Barring Michelle Obama or Oprah Winfrey entering the race at the last minute, I don't believe the dems can attack his record, nor stand on theirs over the past 3 years.

I would never support Trump even if Mex wrote a check, because it goes well beyond that issue with Trump. That said, I would be blown away and it would make me slightly respect his abilities. Mexico will never pay a dime for the wall. That would be cool if they would. Our future trade deal with China pays for the wall as much as Mexico's does. They are just trade deals with no mention of the wall. Repubs needs Congress for the wall. That wall will never be built as Trump stated and Mex will never pay for it.
