Dacari transferred and I understand why. Antonio and Randall are legit. However, who do we replace Dacari with? The WR room is going to look really think next year. Do we replace Dacari with a high school recruit that probably won’t be ready? Or do we replace Dacari with an immediate impact player from the portal?

No way we will replace him from someone with the portal.

What is the deal with Hykeem? Why no offer? Is there no interest on one or both sides?

isn't Ngata the only senior? Room next year barring another transfer Randall, Williams, Collins, Spector, EJ, Stellato, Taylor, Turner and two commits, that's 10 total

Ngata and Drew Swinney are the two seniors. Noble and Hanafin replace them. Dacari gives one more spot. The possibility of EJ leaving could mean a fourth spot.

are they leaving due to playing time? Or is some school out there offering to payout more NIL money? Opinions, I know we don't know for certain.

Swinney is on scholarship but was not a recruited

scholarship guy. I'm counting guys who we recruited or were a PWO like Taylor. I think 9-10 of those guys is normally where we land. We're obviously recruiting other WR, so attrition has been anticipated.
I count 4 guys we have that are "slot" guys; Williams, Spector, Taylor and Stellato. Although I've always felt Stellato may be more of an outside guy despite being only 6'1.

Very talented and could be very successful on the outside (field or boundary).

We will be thin. Sure we have Ronan and Nobel coming in. But haven't kept up with where Ronan would play. Then Randall and Beaux, that's it. I honestly thought we should have brought one in from the portal in the spring when it looked like Randall may be out the year. But yes, wouldn't hurt to pick up some experience from the portal. It's not like said person has to play. Would be on depth chart like everyone else. Jmho.

Noble and Hanafin look like outside WRs. It would be nice to sign more diversity at that position.

I don't understand the how and why of us being thin at any position. while I realize we must puck and choose to a certain extent, I don't understand how we can lack at any position.

The challenge there is someone transferring is looking
Sep 21, 2022, 5:42 AM

to play, not be depth. We offered two transfers last year, both interior lineman. Both likely would have started but chose to go elsewhere. I doubt we ever go heavily into the portal, and I agree with Dabo on that. Culture is stronger Dabo's way. But he has shown a willingness to look where there was a need. At WR this year there were/are questions. But were there clear needs? With all the injuries we just didn't and still don't know.
I think Beaux and Williams are budding stars. Randall has all the hype of one. Guys like EJ and to a lesser extent so far Ngata are disappointments. Spector, Taylor, still either working their way back or just learning. We've never had a chance to see what Stellato can do through no fault on anyone. With Dacari gone, Cole Turner may get some snaps now. The guy drew raves in camp in spite of being someone not highly recruited. He may become something, he wouldn't be the first. He has the measurables, especially the speed, which I think most missed on him about.

Agree, by no way am or would I suggest a deep dive into the portal. Just the opposite. I realize we tried to get 2 oline that didn't work out. We did bring in Hunter Johnson. It was just my opinion we could have brought someone like that in for WR this year once it looked at first light, Randall would be out most of the year. That and based on Ngata history of not making a full year yet, felt a little insurance would be nice.
Now, as for bringing one in from the portal, they still have to go through spr ing practice, fall camp etc to earn a spot. Emphasis on earning a spot. I guess I'm looking more towards accepting that's just where we are in cfb. Guys quit and injuries happen, as long as there's a spot, why not fill it with a potential more experienced guy until you develop a Turner etc. That's all.

develop guys instead of filling that scholarship through the portal. The portal is a short term bandaid. It can be useful, and eventually we'll get someone who fills that role. But few transfers are looking at being a bandaid still in the box. They want to know for sure they're going to be unwrapped and placed somewhere.

What concerns me even more is potentially losing more guys at WR, guys that had a higher likelihood of transferring out to begin with. Think at minimum we should expect either EJ Williams or Troy Stellato to be next, and it wouldn’t surprise me if we lose both.
Can’t stress enough how important it is that our staff not back away from Tyler Williams. Thank goodness we finally decided to offer Antonio Williams at the last minute.

Tyler Williams wouldn’t make sense to me. I get that he’s really talented, but he’s an outside WR. We already have 2 outside WRs committed. We need more WRs like Antonio Williams.

More speed. More agility. Better route running. Great in the open field. A threat in the screen game. Ability to make guys miss.
Antonio might be the only WR we have that can fit all of those categories. Gotta recruit more of them.
