Will somebody please explain to me what a "tight rim" is?

Never heard that term in my 50+ years of following basketball. Does the NBA use a different diameter rim?

it simply means the rim doesn't have a lot of give in it

meaning when the ball hits the rim it bounces hard off of it instead of a rim with give which will result in a lighter bounce.
