Who remembers ACC ref Duane Heydt (just did coin flip)???

Jan 10, 2022, 8:45 PM

Here are some clues…

Pittsburgh at home

Loss

Boulware flagged

Perfect season ruined (still won natty)

Why do we remember his famously bad officiating? Because he’s a SCar grad who lives in Cootlumbia.

Ah the memories.

I think we are all familiar

Noticed on the reviewed play first drive Herbstreit said the officials missed an easy call with UGA lined up in the neutral zone. Took all of one drive to kick a call.

National championship caliber refs.

Is he banned from reffing our games or have we just had a great run of luck?

We did not lose to Pittsburgh because of officiating.

We had an eight point lead with a first down on the 4 yard line and 5:52 to go in the game. All we had to do was give the ball to Gallman and see if he could score while milking the clock and if we did not get it in the end zone kick a field goal to go up by 11 points and only a few minutes left on the clock.

I will never know whether our coaches were stupid and called a pass play for Watson or he checked off, but he rolled out and threw the interception in the end zone that Pittsburgh returned to about the five or 10 yard line. They then scored but did not get the two point conversion.

We got the ball back still up by two points and got to around Pittsburgh’s 45 and only needed one yard to get a first down and the game would’ve been over. But our OL has been mediocre under Dabo and we struggle in short yardage situations.

We failed to get a first down and run out the clock and Pittsburgh got the ball back and kicked a field goal and won the game.

Officiating didn’t have a #### thing to do with losing that game. Crappy coaching and a sorry OL is why we lost. All we had to do was kick a field goal and we would’ve been up by 11 points with a few minutes to go and the game would’ve been over.

Did the coaches try and get cute and think Watson would only throw it if he knew his guy was open? Did Watson call an audible? Honestly I can’t believe our coaches did not say to simply hand the ball off milk the clock kick the field goal and we win. We did not need a touchdown. We needed to kill the clock and kick a field goal. Either way we still should’ve won. We got the ball back with a two point lead. We lost because we could not get one yard when we needed it. And that has been a problem under Dabo every year. It is ridiculous that we are an elite program with such a crappy OL and suck in short yard situations.

Bad teams in the ACC have a better OL than we do. It’s ridiculous that he can’t get this problem fixed!

Has he reffed any of our games since that awful Pitt game? I was at the game and it was by far the worst performance by a ref I've ever seen.
