Yep! And, the crazy part is some people have this mindset: "good for the athlete"! To which; I only partially agree!

It's good for the athlete; if they are fully aware of the consequences of entering the portal!

If they are aware that over half won't find new schools; and they still jump ship then - good for them - they will get what they deserve. For better or worse!

This is where "Tampering" should be getting regulated.
You may not be able to prevent the player from leaving if they want, but universities and universities boosters shouldn't be influencing kids who attend other schools.

It was posted somewhere yesterday that only 38% got new scholarships last year. That's terrible, they can't go back to their old school so it seems they've given up their education unless they can pay out of pocket.

CarolinaKudzu Exactly right!

Kind of wish we had the European model of preparing athletes for future sports careers. But, I understand the road blocks in the U.S.

But, leaving a school without a guaranteed offer is straight up gambling, unless you are a known commodity.

The pressure to win on these coaches is so great; they would never come together and have an agreement to leave nil seekers who left alone(which is some old school shhhh). So, free agency will continue. Hopefully, with multiple years now of data, the kids will start getting more educated about the down side of the portal; if you are not a superstar player.
