I'm sorry to hear that. I think he's a nice young man.

but entering the TP and giving-up a full ride with nothing on which to fall back was imprudent and may end-up being a tough life lesson for him and many others like him.

For some reason I thought he went to Vandy but I can’t find anything on the web to back that up

Unfortunately, a lot of the portal guys will not land anywhere with a scholarship. They all looked at the green grass on the other side of the fence and it proved to be artificial.

When kids consider coming out early for the NFL, they can get some kind of assessment as to where they might go in the draft. This helps them make some kind of rational decision about whether to stay or to go. I wonder if someone couldn't put together something similar with the portal - give the kids a realistic idea as to what their chances are out there.

On the illustrious portal sofa. Another victim of unrealistic expectations. This transfer rule is ruining a lot young people.

It’s true that the portal is often a terrible option but at the end of the day they are ruining themselves by making the choice

I realize schollie availability is one piece of the puzzle but I would think he would be the best on the field at somewhere like Charleston Southern….just as example.
Many more schools fit that description.

Had some options but at a lower level or maybe a really ybad D-1 situation. He could be holding out until after spring practices to see who else may leave or gets injured.

What did he expect? He looked like he had never played the position for most of his time here. He should Have been grateful to get to receive a free college education and be allowed to ride the bench for four or five years. Seems like a nice kid but whoever whispered in his ear that he needed to enter the portal should be removed from his life because they did him a real disservice.

That's a shame. I'm sure he knew the risks but the pull of wanting to play is strong. If he didn't get a real shot at playing last year with as much as DJ struggled in games, he' never get one this year.

Once he realizes that, I think he will find a landing spot.
