Here's all you need to know about Clemson and the BCS!!!

Nov 4, 2012, 10:20 PM

First of all, don't fool yourself into thinking that if Clemson wins out and even finishes ranked as high as 7th in BCS that we're a shoe-in for the Sugar/Fiesta. Here's why:

The BCS consists of 10 teams : 2 from SEC, 1 from Pac12, 1 from Big12, 1 from Big10, 1 from BigEast, FSU, ND, and 2 at-larges!

The choices for the two At-Larges would be from the following three:
(1) - Clemson
(2) - Oklahoma or Texas
(3) - Oregon St, Stanford, USC (yes, the real one), or UCLA (this all assuming Oregon wins Pac-12 Championship)

Laugh if you want about Texas, USC, UCLA now being ranked #17, 18, 19. But those teams would not need to be ranked ahead of us, just in the top 14.

Clemson would definitely get the nod over Oregon State and UCLA. Texas, Oklahoma, or perhaps even a 9-4 USC (losers to Oregon in the Pac-12 Championship game) would each get picked in any scenario ahead of our Tigers. A 9-3 Stanford team (assuming a loss at Oregon) could sneak in there at #13 or #14 in the end but I think 11-1 Clemson would get picked ahead of 9-3 Stanford.

In summary, in addition to Clemson's wins, this is what we need:
1 - Oklahoma to lose somewhere - most important - they play @ WVa and @ TCU but do not play a conference championship
2 - Texas to lose somewhere - they play @ Kansas State on 12/1
3 - USC to lose somewhere - preferably in the regular season and in the Pac 12 Championship to Oregon
4 - Oregon to win out. If Oregon loses to Stanford or Oregon State and misses out on the Pac12 Championship at 11-1, they will get an At-Large over the Tigers.

Kansas State is irrelevant. They would have to lose 2 of their last 3 not to be the Big 12 entry and if they lose 2, we'll be picked ahead of them anyway.

all of those pac 12 teams would have 3 losses

Also Texas. Win out and we're in

you forgot one major factor...fan travel and money.

I think the Sugar Bowl is licking their chops for a Clemson-UGA matchup. Talk about a sell out and it would be a prequel to the 2013 season opener.

Kinda reminds me of the biggest non BCS Game with us and Auburn years back.

However, us vs any SEC #2 will be sold out. :)

You forgot the possibility of Oregon losing the PAC-12 title game in which case they'd go over Clemson.

You also failed to mention #20 Louisiana Tech if they win out and Nebraska slips up will likely get an auto bid.

Also, Clemson would be best suited if Oregon didn't play for the title because the Rose could always choose to keep their PAC12/Big Ten matchup if a second PAC12 team finishes top 14.

Otherwise, rest is spot on.

Pfft.

You forgot that Nebraska is going as the Big 10 Champ or not going to a BCS Game at all. Not to mention U who? smh

What?!!!?!!! Have you lost your mind?

Nov 4, 2012, 11:05 PM

No BCS bowl is going to take a 3 loss team. There may be bias towards the BCS with SEC teams...meaning the 2 loss teams are ranked to high. But even the SEC can only have 2 teams in BCS bowls. A BCS bowl should never take a 2 loss team unless that team wins the conference championship.

In short, 2 SEC teams will go to BCS bowls. The ACC champ and the Pac12 champ and the Big East Champ. The winner of Big 10 will go to the Rose Bowl. Alabama and either K-State, Oregon or ND will most likely play in the National Championship. That leaves 2 or 3 other spots open depending on whether or not ND plays in the NC. If they don't then the Pac12 champ (Oregon) or Big12 (K-State) will play leaving those automatic bid spaces open. Thus, if Clemson wins out it will be in a BCS game.

6 auto bids.

Second SEC team.

Notre Dame.

There's 2 spots in play, not 3.

I said 2 or 3 spots depending on ND didn't I?***

Yea but it's 2. 90% 2. Pretty much no shot at 3.

If we win out I'll be happy either way

Nov 5, 2012, 8:44 AM [ in reply to If we win out ]

believe we'll get a BCS bid, but I'll sure enjoy 11-1 and a win over USC regardless of where we're bowling.
