But that was because Cliff suspended everybody.

Yep. 1998 my freshman year. That was the day I understood why Clemson fans hate UNC. We had a team that could go toe to toe with them and break that streak. The refs were having none of that.

It was UNC up there. Barnes was the coach then. He and the Dean almost got into a fight. Utter chaos.

It was Bill Harder, I think. I think you’re right in him talking to Iturbe, but I think he said some stuff to Bill Harder as well. Something like he was too good of a player to play like that or something.

And, I could be confusing Bill Harder because of that time Jerry Brickhouse tried to fight him. That was in 1995, I think, as well.

He will always be one of my most favorite coaches. He may have only been there four years, but it was a fun four years. I think it was one of the few times in my life I might have been as excited about Clemson basketball as I was Clemson football.

In 1972 Dean got thrown out of a game at Littlejohn. There was a call just before halftime he didn't like and after the buzzer, as the refs were heading for the tunnel, he caught up with the credit and grabbed his arm to get his attention. The ref immediately ejected Dean.
In the second half Dean stood behind the gate at the tunnel, which was ruled as out of the arena, and relayed messages by George Carl to the assistant who took over. Carl had a broken nose from their game a week or so before against UofSC, which I saw in Columbia. Carl was guarding John Roche and Tom Owens set a give and go pick for Roche. Carl didn't see the pick and ran into Owens hard. Carl went down and the Coots bruiser, John Ribock, looked to see if the refs were looking and planted his heel in Carl,'s face, breaking his nose. Carl later played the rest of the season with a hockey mask!

I refuse to watch Clemson basketball when they are at Duke and UNC. Never seen a fairly called game at either venue. 41-9, if true,heads should have rolled on that officiating crew. Huge discrepancy.
If I’m thinking correctly Barnes was taking off the jacket like he was going to check in to the game.

Dean smith thought he created basketball, he was such a bully & dirty coach, four corners & a bunch of elbows & referee help in the ACC.
