Very low class move by some Clemson fans today….
Oct 20, 2012, 8:02 PM
|
|
During the induction of some new members into the military, that they normally do on Military appreciation day, a number of fans booed during the last part of the induction that states that you must follow the President's orders. I don't care what your opinion is on whoever is President, that was a very low class move and disrespect towards those young men and women who were being inducted. You can't claim you're patriotic and appreciate the Military, then boo apart of a Military Induction, just because you can't filter your politics for 5 seconds. That was pretty much the most lowest class move I have ever seen out of Clemson fans. Now you can put down or try to argue with me about it, but point blank it was disrespectful to those young man and woman being inducted.
Reply however you want to reply, but I have said my piece on this and won't say nothing more on this subject.

George Washington didn't "respect authority", the Washington Post didn't "respect authority" when something was rotten in the Nixon WH. HTat's part of what is great here, the opportunity to protest. It's why those whiny, #### for brains OCCUPY idiots get to walk around with the same protections and rights.
That said, booing during something like this was a poor way to demonstrate ones dissatisfaction with the trampling of the constitution these days.
Now, back to why we are here.... GO TIGERS!!!

Considering some of the comments I've read on here I'm not surprised some Clemson fans booed during the ceremony. No matter what your political beliefs, the POTUS is the hardest job in the world and should be treated with a certain level of decorum.

It's getting worse but is nothing new. And it's an endless cycle as each party believes that because their President was disrespected that they owe the other party.

The whole point of the enlistment ceremony is that the new soldiers are swearing to follow the orders of the commander in chief, whoever it is. If you want to boo that, go ahead, but I think it's shameful.
Frankly, there is too much booing at Clemson football games period. I was bothered that most fans seemed to prefer to focus on booing VT when they entered the stadium even though the tigers were at the top of the hill getting ready to run down.
Express your frustration with bad calls, etc, but don't go out of your way to be a boo-bird. Save that for the coots.

Actually in the military you are required to follow ALL LAWFUL ORDERS . And that starts from the President of the United States all the way down to the person more senior to you. With that being said noone at the game should have booed that part of the ceremony as it is not about the current president but the fact there young people have made a decision to serve this country in a branch of the military. And yes I can speak on this as I am still serving this country for over 21 years. I joined under former President Bush and have served under former Presidents Clinton, G.W. Bush and now President Obama. It is the office of President I serve not the person.

As a person who did not serve, perhaps I am just not educated on the topic, but to me the inclusion in the oath would be to affirm that the president is the commander in chief of the military. Whether we like him as a person or like his politics or not, his position is that of a commander elected by the people, not selected by the military itself. That is one thing that seems to be uniquely American and while it has caused us troubles, it also has served us well (MacArthur?). But I think it best to not include the ceremony again next year. On the other hand we do have freedom of speech and expression and the guys and gals taking the oath are the ultimate ones who protect that right for us all, including those who have no couth or just pick the wrong venue to express frustration.

But booing him during a military tribute (or whatever it was) isn't the time or place. It's about honoring our military men and women, we can keep our hatred of the president to ourselves until it's over and then give a big "OBAMA SUCKS!" chant at the end.

Textiger, one difference between someone booing when the president is physically present (which I agree is classless no matter what your political beliefs) and when the office of the president is mentioned is that when you boo the latter, you're booing the institution and what it stands for separate from who actually occupies the Oval Office at the moment.

Booing Was Due To The Words POTUS Being Said
Oct 20, 2012, 8:17 PM

Agreed it was the wrong place and wrong time, but the booing had nothing to do with the pledge to follow the President's orders. It was simply in response to the mentioning of the guy.

68% chance says the biased liberal media? LOL! You and your socialist friends are the DAs. A lot of people fell for the "hope and change" BS in 2008. Now that anyone with common sense has seen the total blunder that an Obama administration is he will go down in flames. Amazing there are people that still back this clown.

Yea I heard a few students behind me booing. I don't know if it was just them but that was a low-class move. I don't care if you're the biggest left or right wing person out there, you don't boo "the president" when they are doing a military tribute. You keep it to yourself and you can express your distaste afterward.

It's an completely different thing to boo the chain of command in the US. It's very disrespectful to the soldiers who risk their lives by following their nations orders. Especially during a ceremony that's supposed to honor them.

Regardless of where this happened (Clemson, etc) this would have happened. Younger folks aren't what we were, etc.
No respect for country, elderly or military.

I agree.
George Washington warned us about partisan politics, everyone seems to forget that while making patriotic quotes that fit their particular views.
It's like those "Not My President" bumper stickers. I don't care who the President of the United States is(as long as he was elected legally), he is still the President of the United States and if he isn't your President then you aren't a U.S. Citizen or you need to renounce your citizenship. Until then he is your President.
I invite anyone who booed or disliked your post to do the same.
I support neither political party and which one I lead towards is irrelevant as I saw those bumper stickers before Obama. I saw the same attitude while George W. Bush was the President of the United States and feel they should do the same.

I agree with you 100%, whether you like the President or not, he wasn't here to hear those boos, and those military people who may have to risk their lives for your freedom were. It was a very low class move.

I'm proud to be a veteran, a Tiger, and a South Carolinian, but embarrassed by some of the trash that comes out of the woodwork.
Kudos to the OP for pointing out the situation. Hopefully we all can do our part to promote a classier fanbase.

Play the race card! Maybe many people don't want a president who seems to not want the country to be strong- and who is surrounded by radicals. Obama is an egomaniac.

Ah the race card never leave home without it.
I guess it has nothing to do with 6 Trillion in debt, 1.3% Economic Growth, Continued high unemployment, and a very large increase in people living off the tax payers dime.
It is all due to him being black. Good call.

An induction or otherwise and no matter who is the President, I don't think you ever boo the president - the person or the office.
The funny this is that if Romney wins he will be those inductee's President for at least 4 years.

First I am a veteran and current federal civil servant and fully understand the situation. I did not hear any boos but they certainly may have happened. At the same time I don't recall ever hearing the dramatic pause after the word "President" like I heard today (note this was NOT so those taking the oath could repeat). I immediately thought "why did he pause there, that isn't where the pause is supposed to be (in fact me immediate thought was the BG must like the Pres). The pause was almost an invitation for a response by the fans and apparently some did.
It is what it is but if that upset any of those guy then they are in trouble once they start their military service.

..not the crowd (mob).
It's unfair to the enlistees to take a military proceeding and conduct it in such an open forum and expect reverence and respect.
Those "future heroes" should not have even had the chance to be subjected to the potential disgrace of their oath.
It's still America. People have the right to voice their opinion Unfortunately, regardless of setting. We can debate and judge each others moral compass all we want. It won't change the fact that this was the wrong audience for such an important life decision for those military inductees.

Actually I will totally disagree that it was the wrong audience for this ceremony. Our young men and women who make the choice to serve this country should have it in an open forum for all to see. While I understand not everyone in this country while like/agree with how the sitting President may act or perform, people should take a moment to think about their own personal actions. Protest the President all you want (no matter who it is) because that is a freedom we members of the military protect and will protect willingly. That is just one of many freedoms a citizen of this country enjoys. So to dishonor a ceremony that is celebrating the choice of young men and women to serve this country just because you do not approve of the current President is just plain inappropriate and not the right time for such objections. And by all means feel free to TD or post a negative response all you want. I will still wake up, put on my uniform and support this country and your right to do so until such time as I retire from my service.

I don't care what you think of the president, to boo at a military induction because of ANYTHING should be a crime. The first thing my wife said was, "Wow! And we talk about the coots being low class? Wow." I was embarrassed by our fans and I never thought I'd have to say that.

I just found it ironic that they said "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America" and obey orders from the POTUS? Obama has completely violated the Constitution ever since he has been in office..
On a side note, I didn't even hear any boos.

I suspect alcohol had something to do with people's lack of discretion and inability to respect the office of the Presidency, but it's no excuse. Shame on those who booed for trying to disrupt and ruin an enlistment ceremony, no matter who the President is.
