It's times like these

That remind me how pathetically addicted I am to Tiger football.
6am. Rehashing all the recent CU recruits and salivating over the prospect of fall, football, and chili.
Can't wait to see the Shock the World Tour continue.
GO TIGERS!

Haha - same here, minus the chili. I've been silently TV shopping as well. Need 1080p this year!
First time poster - just registered after browsing as a guest for much of last season. Glad to be in the community and 1 Sept can't come soon enough.

Ha - no hate! Great going in - drama coming out. For me, that is. Not to say I would turn any down meandering through the tailgating lot...

TV Browsing

Look into Westinghouse. Not pricey, good quality. Target puts them on sale pretty often.
Got our kid an LED model to take to college and already had an LCD one for the game room.
We don't do the 3d stuff so these were fine for us.

Thx for the tip. Need to upgrade a 5 year old plasma 720p. Still not too bad, but I want to literally see some teeth knocked out of helmets by Venables D this year!
And maybe 2 games in person hopefully. Can't beat DV on a Fall Saturday!

Check out that 70" LED from Sharp.
Its pretty serious. I was trying to convince my wife last weekend that it would fit better in the living room than our current 54" Plasma... It was ridiculous. They had it at Walmart.
Not sure that I really need to drop $2k on a tv though. I usually get mine Black Friday and get about half off of normal prices...

It's great man. Got one in the man cave. I want the 80 or 90 now lol. We moved things around to make room for it..shuffled a 47 to the master a 52 to above the fireplace, 26 in one spare bed, and a 42 in the other.
The 70 is worth the money for sports, but i will say if you dont have a bangin surround sound dont bother.

1080p is wasted on most actual TV

Since many carriers only broad cast 720p at most.

I'd sure as heck rather have a 1080p with the capability to take advantage of the MANY channels that broadcast it than a 720 that can't. And... BTW... most standard stations that broadcast do 1080i instead of 1080p anyway. Still, many of the A/V amps upconvert... even from 540... all Blu Ray players do 1080p and upconvert as well.

Yeah, Bluray and such is great. Just most

TV output devices that I've seen are limited to 720p (regardless of what the station is actually broadcasting), which is a real shame. 1080p is great, especially if you have something that can stream 1080p to the TV (like a PC, PS3, 360, or Bluray player).
Up-conversion is meh at best. It can make the image a little better, but in the end it will never really equal a true 1080p image. It's the same with taking a low res image and blowing it up, then applying a filter to sharpen it. It works somewhat, but creating detail where there was none is a shaky prospect at best.

The numbers of 1080i stations is growing... and I would still rather have 1080 capability than not. Seems to me a waste to have 1080 capability and show it in 720.
As you said... upconvert is not 1080... but as you also said, its a better than no upconvert for lesser resolution sources.
For me, I wouldn't even look at a TV that could do no better than 720.

I'm with you there - just to get the highest resolution possible on the TV itself. Carriers will come around eventually.
And @dchinners - holy crap, that's a huge set. I'll be lucky if I can convince the wife of an upgrade from 42 to 47".

Nothing wrong with this morning routine. It's a cup of coffee to a Tiger fan. Caffeine for the red blood, Clemson Football updates for the Orange blood.
GO Tigers!
