Ngata couldn't go...not good news. So disappointing when a guy gets bit by the injury bug and can't shake it. Hoping it was just precautionary.

Man, I was hoping for some OL thoughts. Sounds like the D did what the D does, which is awesome. If they can hold their own against our D, well, I’d feel pretty good about that.

O line was hard to evaluate b/c the D line and defense as a whole was so good.... Mayes looked amazing, going to be great, o-line as whole looks much improved from last year.

Thanks! Call me crazy, but I haven’t even heard much buzz about Mayes this summer. That could be a scary good indicator of where we are in comparison to last year.

"freshman QB is 'electric' " ...

I take that as a great sign. I'm a little concerned about our depth there, and when Dabo heaps that kind of praise on a player, he's not blowing smoke.

Taylor ran off probably 3 30-45 yard runs today, he was awesome.

Where was Justin Ross. Held out since he has been in COVID protocol?

No idea why he was held out, but no he didn't play a snap today-- EJ looked great, as well as Stellato and D. Collins.

Yeah so it was a former players and their families event that Dabo does every year---bring in the alumni, serve smokin pig and watch a scrimmage in the Valley, except this year was moved to Poe.

Surprise surprise, the defense dominated
Aug 14, 2021, 8:34 PM
|
|
I almost feel sorry for the O-line. They are still figuring things out and played against the best D-line in CFB. To win the opener and legitimately compete for a championship at the end, the O-line cannot be totally owned by good defenses.
I'd like an evaluation of (1) how DJ did and (2) how the secondary competed against the receivers.
Not worried at all about the RBs, D-line or LBs. Grace Raynor of The Athletic says she believes EJ and Justyn are clearly standing out as the two best WRs.
Bottom line for me: Gotta fix the O-line. I'm very concerned.

I am with you there. We will go as far as out O line takes us. We have enough talent to beat most ACC teams regardless, but to go to the level we desire, it starts with the lines and DBs.

Defenses usually do better in early practices. It's great news that another QB is looking good.

DJ was fine, nothing special and nothing bad--but for some reason he was running a lot with the Will Browns, Will Swinneys, etc-- didn't get a lot of run with the starting skill guys it seemed.
Secondary was good, Feed Davis hit Dacari Collins so hard one time, sounded like a car crash and almost started a fight. Competing hard and playing physically, which is what we need.
