If ever there was evidence of Dabo & Clemson's recruiting philosophy, it's here in this story
Here, we have a high priority for defensive linemen, especially edge rushers. As the story points out.
Clemson has offered 6 edge rushers so far, for the 2023 class Florida State? 17!
Total DL? Clemson 11, FSU 62
Total offers? Clemson 76, FSU 309
Come to Clemson, you are special in our coaches eyes. Go to FSU, if you want to be a number.

If we are expecting freshmen to come in and contribute next year we are screwed. First of all any freshman who is ready to play will likely have a high NIL value so we will not land him.
The good news is we could use the portal to add an experienced DE or two but we have not shown a willingness to engage.

LOL...We've had plenty of freshmen come in and make an immediate impact at DE. Leave roster building through the portal to your boy Brownell.

Name a DE who had a big impact in a championship year? For example XT had spot Duty on 3rd & long and KJ had a RS year.
Miles Murphy made an impact but was a top 10 talent. A top ten talent now requires a big NIL which Clemson does not offer.
So Mr. Smart Guy, which 2023 DE recruit are we in the top 2-3 for who has the ability to play immediately?
I will hang up and wait for your dumb #### to realize there is not an answer

First off we have never made a championship run with a young Defense. Our chance at a NC is this year. If we keep up with injuries we won’t come close to a NC. But I do think we can pull in at least one elite DE mixed with two solid top 250 player DE.
I don’t agree that we provide zero opportunity for NIL. We just don’t provide what TA&M provides. Let’s wait and see what we bring in. Immediate playing time is also very important.

####....Where would we have been without Austin Bryant and why would you limit it to a championship year? Does a freshman only make an impact if you're in the championship? And how in the hell do you know it's going to take a big NIL deal for Clemson to recruit a big name?
So Mr. Smart Guy since you know so much about football recruiting, name me the 6"4" 275LB. DE that I think is ours to lose. I'll sit back watch Cade Denhoff and Kevin Swint develop on the field this season and our incoming class of DE's fill out the depth chart for 2023.
So hang up and go wash out the skid marks on the front of your underwear courtesy of J. Keller.

Do you think we can thrive with two experienced DEs and a bunch of freshman who are not elite players?
Go look at the DE board on 247. The top guys are all interested in the same group of schools all of which have an NIL and none list Clemson. Use your brain for a change.

So you can’t name the 6’4”, 275lb DE, that will sign with Clemson? You think you’re smart but you’re just a GD idiot.

Might as well go ahead and sell your season tickets and put our headstone in the graveyard by the indoor practice facility. Might never win another game.
I guess in your world if you dont pump sunshine then the world is ending? GTFO. Perhaps if you want to reply try actually adding something to the conversation of substance? For example try answering the question in terms of which elite DE who is ready to contribute on day one has us in his top 2-3 schools and will not be an NIL bidding war?
I will wait for you to reply with anything related to the actual discussion.

You are correct this time. If I ever lose hope and my positive attitude then yes my world is probably ending. And I would much rather exist in that world than mired in negativity and constant hand wringing over things that may never happen.
We will sign quality DEs in this class. What their projections are right now really doesn’t matter. Neither you nor I nor the people handing out the stars can say how they will play in future years. I will remain hopeful the guys we get will become great. 2 weeks ago Adam Randall was “ready to contribute on day one”. One misstep in practice changed all that. Your predictions of who will be ready in a year and a half are probably even less reliable at this point in time. Trust the coaches. The Clemson D Line will be fine.

This is where you and i differ. I don't think an honest assessment is being negative. I also dont think hoping for a great result when an honest assessment is pointing to something else is a healthy attitude.
I would also say that platitudes such as trust the coaches or we will be fine is nothing more than making you fell better about a situation when the everything you know points to a different outcome. I prefer a more honest approach.
BTW the sky is not falling but we are very unlikely to be an elite DE after this year unless we use the portal.

But you don't apply this same logic to the basketball program? You post exactly like your idol on this board. Do y'all take baths together as well?

Sounds pretty negative to me. My honest assessment is the only thing pointing to a different outcome is you. I’m honestly expecting the same type of outcome we have had for the last 6-7 years and I’m fine with that.

Maybe I'm overthinking, but...

I thought the quote at the end was really interesting:
"We have to get one to commit. If I get one to commit, I will feel good about the other two and getting them to commit."
That sounds like Hall has the three they are targeting the most clearly defined in his head and those three are in contact with each other. If we get the primarily, we get the other two.

You're correct. We're not going to think about the portal in APRIL like some would suggest when this current class isn't a sprint. We're going to have a very good offensive and defensive line class this year. I actually think we have a chance to sign the best O-line class in school history. We will also have to turn away some OLine and DT's because we won't be able to take them all.

I'm not worried AT all about the portal for defense at the moment. I mean, at some point those TAMU guys are going to realize there are more Dude$ than $naps and look elsewhere. Some of these cats going for the money grab now will be looking later, you can bet on that. Cases like that will be a good time to consider the portal, but for now I'm good with the HS approach.
