We shall see. While the future will, we need to deal with now now.

What I would like to know is what are our specific needs and what we would do with more revenue. We have facilities that are competitive with anyone so it isn’t that. We can’t use revenue for NIL can we? I do not suggest keeping our revenue competitive with our football competition is not important. It just seems there is a lot of worry that somebody has more revenue than we do and we must catch up. When you look at the listing of schools by renue we outperform a lot that have more revenue. I fear all the realignments hunting more money is ruining college football.

DROP non-revenue generating sports - PROFIT-DRIVEN mentality

The MARKET is driving the NIL and player value.

If you are going to drive college football in this direction, then APPLY the same market-driven, return-on-investment for ALL other sports that are today being subsidized by football revenue.

Universities already prioritize certain sports, or not participate in certain sports. This selective process is NATURAL and already partially in play at all Power 5 universities.

Just take the prioritization to its natural steady state based on the present model.

Clemson should focus ONLY on football and baseball. Drop ALL OTHER sports. Refine revenue and NIL contracts for football and baseball.

It just seems so obvious to me.

I get your point about the money, but can't you try to have a heart for the other athletes? I love the football and baseball teams, but I also love men's basketball, men's and women's soccer, softball, volleyball, men's and women's cross country and track, and lacrosse, as do many others in the community. These sports all have some level of fanbase within the Clemson community, despite being much smaller than football of course. The others I'm not as passionate about, but I still support Clemson's teams and athletes and want them to be successful. The golf teams in particular garner a lot of interest. You should try going to a game of one of the secondary sports I just listed sometime, just to try it. You might find, as I did, that you enjoy it more than you thought you would. I just hope you can see that it's not all about money, and that the secondary sports still mean a lot to the athletes and to people in the Clemson community and fanbase. Just trying to offer you a different perspective that you may not have considered before.

The extra revenue goes to NIL to pay players.

Look at the money Texas A&M wasted on Jimbo. UT and others blow a lot of $$$$.
Clemson just has to be smart on how and what we spend. We can’t waste money, nothing new.
The only way we raise more big money is in the SEC.

Go Tigers!

This is a very important article.

Clemson has far too many fans (more frequently the younger ones) who expect other Clemson graduates to donate money out of proportion to donations from those alumni of much larger schools that are also passionate about football … all so that Clemson can keep up (from the monetary aspect) in the NIL competition. These younger fans of ours express seemingly perpetual frustration because Dabo doesn’t use the portal as often as other (much bigger and much richer, from the alumni support perspective for NIL type activities) than the other schools that are quickly increasing the quality of their FB rosters.

In other words, Clemson has a lot of younger alumni who are very vocal about being generous with other people’s money.

To those among the ‘generous’ younger Clemson alumni, please read this article about Graham Neff twice.

thoughts you have for our athletes here at Clemson. Glad you think they'll never add value to society after they make some money playing a sport. Pretty shallow, but hey you've seemingly earned the ability to be that.

the BS and call NIL what it has actually become for the majority of players - donor funded pay for play.

When an incoming freshman that hasn't played a down of college football can get a ridiculous "NIL" deal like the Manning kid at Texas - this ain't money being generated by businesses selling advertising using the Manning kids face on their products... Nope, it is simply paying the kid to come to Texas behind the facade of some minimalist "NIL" event(s) (sign a few jerseys, show up at a grip & grin etc...) that no business in their right mind would otherwise pay an 18 year old kid for...

NIL is simply becoming a modern day bagman - legalized pay for play with the only limiting factor being how much the collectives can squeeze out of donors. The larger the donor base - the more money they can throw at these kids and to heck with what it may actually be doing to college sports and any sort of level playing field.

Let's be honest - there is currently less safeguards to fair competition in college football than there are in the NFL. At least the NFL has salary caps that provides a level monetary playing field where money can't simply buy the best roster.

I guess time will tell if the current level of NIL insanity continues but at some point we can only hope that the whole NIL thing is revamped to have some guardrails to the athletes and fair competition are put in place...

Maybe 3 years away from a serious legal challenge to the NCAA meddling

...in NIL contracts.

The intent is to just get the NCAA out of the way to allow universities to negotiate with players and the player's union to fill out the roster & payroll.

Just a few more years. Clemson has invested too much in facilities to allow these facilities to just be used for team performances that fill up only half of Memorial Stadium.

Schools/institutions like Clemson, will have to do something financially to compete with the BIGGER institutions for a Top 5 payroll roster that will cost in the range of $25M to $30M per year.

If fair competition does not come into play at some point, the market value of CFB will decline because of lack of viewership.

The day is coming where 70% of the schools cannot keep up with the top 30%. Thus, those schools fans (and you better believe Clemson could be in that 70%) will lose hope for the next year. 70% of eyes on televisions is allot to lose.

If there are guardrails put in place, it will likely mean the players have

some collective power and some sort of union or representation. The NCAA helps cause this by standing steadfast by the old fake mantra of student-athletes and amateurism, then the courts said no more on that. They were able to get guardrails such as players aren't employees, but can make outside money, but they'll probably be hard pressed to put restrictions on the free market from here on out, without negotiating.

Should fans give to the collective, or IPTAY who pays the bonds

of facilities and in theory the scholarships and some coaches compensation? Seems like at some point this will be a real conundrum for bond covenants and such, but people smarter than me can figure out where they continue to extract money from fans goes.
