The Varsity or Skin's

Which place do you think has better hot dogs?
Living here in Atlanta, I like The Varsity but do think I like Skin's slightly better - always go there when I'm in Clemson or Greenville.

Thrasher's... True story... The wife is doing Dental Asst. class back in the '80s... The girls go to Skin's down at Whitner St. That evening, she is telling my 80-something Grandmother about the new place they had found to eat.. She was CRUSHED when my MEME said.." MNN,MNN,MNN.. That's not a place you want to go"... Why? Skin would serve 2 BEERS MAXIMUM...You were a good soul, MEME...

Skins. Hands down. Great place for a student on a budget. 2 hot dogs with a bag of Fritos and glass bottled coke. I miss those days and that place off the beaten path in Atown

A Varsity hot dog is equivalent to what you would buy at a 7-11. Maybe not even as good.

Skins without a doubt. Their chili is very good and nowhere near as greasy as the Varsity's.

honestly, the hot dogs at The Cheetah rival pretty much any establishment in town.

I have NEVER understood why people liked Skins. The dogs have no flavor. They're like eating water tubes.
Never had the Varsity.

Nothing special about either one. I prefer Nathan's steamed in Coors.

It’s all a matter of preference. The V is an iconic

landmark in ATL. If you like greasy food and need a good clean out, the V is your place.
The Original Skins has always been good, but I agree with the above poster that said they have no flavor. It takes a good bit of the salt, pepper, and Tabasco on the table to get the dog just right.
One of my favorites back in the day was Sam’s Corner in Garden City, SC. Jack’s Cosmic Dogs in Mt. Pleasant has great hot dogs as well.
Still hard to beat a home grilled hot dog with all your own fixings on a hot summer day, though.

Great Thread here...I consider myself a bit of a Hot Dog connoisseur, so I'm happy to jump in here.
To answer the original question...Skins all day, hands down.
however.....
There are some other good options, my favorite being Holmes Hot Dogs in Spartanburg...Very similar to Skins....I like their chili better, and they have french fries instead of just chips.
And also, if you're ever in Charlotte, go to Pinky's Westside Grill...they have a few locations, but we always go to the one near Bank of America Stadium....get the Pimiento Cheese Chili dog. You will thank me later.
Happy Hot Dogging!

a hot dog as good as Skins.
I’ve never been to The Varsity in Atlanta, but nothing in the Raleigh area compares to Skins.
Snoopy’s is pretty good, but they're not Skins.
And, no ... The Roast Grill does not have great hot dogs.
