to on radio or watched on TV?
MINE: This would be my 48th since my frosh year; however, I missed three due to overseas military duty (69, 70, 71.)
The record since 1965:
Tigers 29 Gamecocks 17 Tie 1

I have you beat by the 3 years your service kept you away since we started Clemson the same year and I got to see the '70 game before going to Nam and was home early (less than one year there). Why did we not see or listen to any games before we went there? I am sure I must have but can't remember.

A neighbor's son in Rock Hill was a 1955 Clemson

graduate, so, of course, I was aware of the school; however, in those days most people I knew were into the high school games, not collegiate ones. Believe it or not, I never saw the Clemson campus until I arrived in August 1965 for my enrollment...and many of my Clemson friends had the same experience...a little scary at first, especially when the upperclassmen came running, but they actually also looked out for us. When I attended the first home football game that year, I thought I had arrived in the big time...LOL (Those were the days before the upper decks were added!)

I didn't even know about the Rat Season and got a haircut the day before going. Talk about wasted money (about $2.00 back then). I really wanted to go to Clemson because of my 12th grade English teacher- didn't really have a college preference before then so I guess that's why I don't recall seeing games on TV or listening on the radio before then. OR ...I MIGHT JUST BE GETTING OLD.

traditions; however, he snickered every time he described Rat Season for some reason...which, of course, I learned upon arrival. My head was shaved within 15 minutes upon my arrival: a UC approached me as my Dad said goodbye, asked if I was a freshman, called me a rat and yelled: "Follow me, Rat!" My Dad laughed....I didn't!

My Dad was with me too and I don't think they even let me keep my hair until he left. He came back for the first football game (the end of Rat Season) and the guys in my dorm thought he was my brother. Oh , if we could just turn back the clock on some things.

as a freshman alternate but was able to participate with the team in all the games. When my parents came to one of the earliest, my Mother and Dad both burst out laughing when they saw my haircut. I'll never forget what my Mother said: "You need to wear that hat...even to bed!" (She was a great tease, although at the time, I was somewhat taken aback by her comment....LOL)

I was born in 1961 and the coots won that year. I recall kicking the slats out of my cradle when the final gun sounded.

i was 12 at the time and its still the worst game i ever sat through. 63-17 get all the attention but that 45-0 game was far more dominant. the clemson team that won 63-17 was better than us but not by as much as the score said. if those teams played ten times carolina would win 3 or 4 maybe. that 89 team could have played us 100 times with similar results. everyone knew what clemson was gonna do and it didnt matter. 63-17 just got out of hand. 45-0 was inevitable. freaking wesley mcfadden up the middle. was just demoralizing.

were as stunned by the final score as were the Gamecocks. And even as great as that victory was, none over the years has been as triumphant as that Orange Bowl National Championship....For those either very young then or not yet born, you just can't imagine the great sense of joy and pride we experienced with that defeat of Nebraska.

My first game. We drove up from the Low Country. The closer
Nov 22, 2012, 7:48 PM

we got to Clemson, the more the weather deteriorated. We saw a car spin on the ice between Maudlin and Clemson. It was a very, very cold, wet and icy day. I was 9 years old and by the end of the fourth quarter, my cowboy boots began losing the battle against the rain ad wet. The cold water began to make its way inside the socks. You know you're on borrowed time when that when that happens.

My uncle had given me tickets to the game and with the forecast so bad, I talked an army buddy into driving his car and I would give him the second ticket. He was a Gamecock fan and lost out every way you could lose that day. Glad I didn't take a date or she would have hated me before the game was over.

Boy Scout at what was then known as Carolina Stadium, because our Scoutmaster was a NC State grad and wanted us to see Roman Gabriel play; the next time as a CU cheerleader in 1965, when we left disappointed as we lost by one point. Neither school had upper decks, but both seemed pretty large to me. The facts are that the rivalry is one of the oldest and most continuously played in the nation...and both coaches have helped this year to add to its intensity.

He has either attended or listened to every Clemson vs. USC game since then. So, I guess that is about 70+ years! I love to hear ALL of the stories of the past rivalry including Big Thursday, they are better than any book has ever wriiten about the history! At the age of 92 he can still give you every statistic, every score, and pretty much every impact play and who made it during the series! He finally retired from attending the games in his mid 80's but that hasnt stopped him from knowing every thing about Clemson football, past and present, and even down to who they are recruiting today! There are letters that his brother wrote to him while in Germany during WWII refering to Carolina fans saying "wait until next year!" I just love it and anyone who really values Clemson football would understand it!

I was at CU, and there were a good many older grads alive then...all of whom had great stories going back to the earliest days of Clemson football. You should try to write some of his tales...then read them 20 or 30 years from now. I promise they will be golden treasures.
