Wonder how Coaches Vendables, Elliott & Scott are feeling today?

Bet those much larger salaries aren't soothing their losing lumps.
Great guys who did a lot for Clemson and are welcome back any time..
to watch a Clemson game in DV to witness the new scoreboard & LED flash show.
Go Tigers!

IDK... that amount of money would soothe a LOT of lumps for a LOT of coaches... but there is NO place like DV to experience CFB!

I have a hard time imagining Venables or Elliott will be coming back.

Probably depends on Mister Dow Jones. Ask their money manager.

Their grandkids are set up for life now. I seriously doubt a few bad games or start to a season is going to make them wish they were making a fraction of what they do now.
I've left a company and make more money elsewhere even though the company was not as successful as my previous one. At the end of the day, you have to look at for yourself and your family because your employer won't.
Being the best OC/DC in the country for a few years is like being the tallest midget. Think anyone is super impressed and building statues for Bud Foster? Dude made $500k for decades and in 10 years no one in Blacksburg will remember his name.

The current head coach in Blacksburg...

|
|
will be forgotten in 10 years (or less).
In case you missed it, Brent Venables made $millions at Clemson for several years, and if he had stayed he would have continued to add $millions to his savings. He left Clemson a multi-millionaire. And if $$ was his primary motivation he would have left for a HC position long before he did. He never struck me as someone who was going to be where his heart led him, not where he could add the most extra $millions to his bank account.
Even for those of us who don't earn $millions coaching, making $$ the main motivating factor in what employer and home life you select is seldom a wise choice in the long run.

To quote Billy Beane in Moneyball, ( a fantastic movie if you haven’t seen it)
“I made one decision based on money and I swore I would never do it again.”

My first thought was "rich". They wake up every day knowing they never have to worry about money for the rest of their lives. Must be nice.

Can't imagine they're feeling "great" at this point in time, given the recent performance of their teams, but I'm sure they believe they can/will turn things around at their school. I agree with you that become a head coach is "living their dream". Clemson is in their past, they are likely looking toward their futures...

Venables kept looking around for his " get back " guy so he could hurry up and get back to Norman and get this **** fixed. That's my guess with him. Elliott I believe has more time and doesn't necessarily have the same sense of urgency but I think they'll get better. Just don't think Virginia can get the dudes to ever compete with the heavies. I asked of this board months ago if Scott were to be relieved of his duties should we entertain the idea of bringing him back. At the time our WRs were obviously in a different place. Now it appears they're improving and playmakers are emerging. Antonio Allen is going to be a dude. So is Randall. Collins is coming too. And the production from the TE unit is one of the biggest gains of all. Briningstool is going to be special. You're seeing glimpses of it now. He's extremely athletic for a TE and it's been a long time since we've had a playmaker there. We've just been hoping they would occasionally throw the ball that way and we'd have somebody to catch it. Well , with BStool we're going to get so much more than that. And Davis ain't no slouch. I'm not sleeping on him , just excited for what the future holds for BStool. So , all that said let's just let the season play out and if we think there need to be any changes address it then.

I’m guessing they’re not overjoyed today, but it’s a lot of asst coaches dream to become a head coach some day. I believe they did it right by putting in their time as an assistant and learning all that they could. Sometimes that first gig doesn’t go well. Maybe they’re just not head coach material, but great assistants. Hope they all succeed! Go Tigers.

BV will right the ship in Norman. The man is a winner.
Scott is unfortunately on his way out at USF. Too bad he couldn’t succeed there. Thought it was as a good fit.
Elliott is doing pretty much what I expected so far at UVA. Let him recruit a few cycles and then we can judge.

They were ripping Venables on tv - giving up 55
We know what Dabo did when we got blown out at that bowl game
And OU has the players and they are all getting paid - similar to TX thought
Agree re Scott
UVA have to give some time

lumps."
Lol. I'll bet they are.
It's not even half way through the first season. And at the end of the day, everyone should have the courage to bet on themselves. Better to have tried and failed.
I do hope they can turn it around. I think it would be nice to see the Dabo tree have some success...I'll be disappointed if it doesn't, but since Dabo's success is more about culture, you can't always assume it will be instant (which is mostly a commentary on Elliott, since BV has the players and Scott has been there for a few years now). Give it a couple years and see where it lands.

I see where they will be financially set and yea I get that but these are proud men and I’m sure it is hard on them when they lose. Money is a bonus but it’s human nature to want to be the best at what you do. Venables especially… cannot imagine what’s going on in his mind with that defensive performance from Saturday.
