Favorite underrated signings in Clemson football history....

I'll start.
1. Fred Cone. Never played football in high school, now in the ring of honor.
2. Levon Kirkland. I couldn't believe we signed him. I am pretty sure he was a 2* and an afterthought in his signing class. He really stood out to me as the one that didn't belong, a "wasted scholarship".

His was the last scholarship given in that class I believe, and that was only because another recruit backed out at the last minute.

Yeah he definitely filled out over the years. I think he played at about 270 his last few years with the Steelers.

I think he was a mid 3 star that was running an option offense in high school. We had Willie Shotgun Simmons as our star in waiting at the QB position. When Charlie was signed I viewed him as a career backup.

Georgia wanted him as a DB but we were the only Division I school to offer him as an RB.

Yes, I remember thinking there was no way Allen was going to start with the other RBs we signed. Joe Henderson out of NJ was one (Parade all American). Don't remember the other. Terry was better.

Deshaun Watson...might sound silly but think

about it. Some recruiting experts had him only a 4 star = underrated. Not only that, but who would have thought his first couple of plays against UGA would be that electric... one commentator said about his first TD at the time, "he just made a great through and the timing worked out in his favor throwing into that much coverage. Then there is the play with broken knee to beat the cluckers... And then we get to this year AND THE POWERS THAT BE FAIL TO GIVE HIM THE HEISMAN. Underrated!
He's at least 8 star from the get go!

Wayne Gallman

|
|
With 516 yards and 8 touchdowns as a senior running back and 46 tackles and 7 sacks as a senior linebacker, he was rated as the 26th best running back in the nation by Scout. Most college coaches did not see him as a running back.
Turns out, he's one of the best running backs in the country.

I was more excited about Gallman and Dye than Nkemdiche. I thought it would be a great 1-2 punch.

Coming out of high school in North Dakota, he received no NCAA Division I scholarship offers and ended up being All-Atlantic Coast Conference.
