Tavien Feaster
Apr 24, 2019, 10:56 AM
|
|
Got a call yesterday afternoon (about the time Bresee was committing) that said Tavien would enter the transfer portal at some point in the next day or two and they wanted to give me a heads up. I texted Coach Swinney immediately (I would rather be right than first), and he said, "We haven't confirmed that but he is thinking about it." So I decided to hold off (sounded like the coaches were still talking to him about it).
As of this morning, according to team officials, there is still nothing official but we might have some word by this afternoon. I see someone has already posted something so I feel like it's ok to let you know here. Like they said, nothing official yet, but should have some word later.

DJ? Feeling good, not good, 50/50? From what I’ve seen I’ve felt pretty good about him and his visit to Oregon, there is no reason to hurt Oregon and not show some love. Just going could help them. But I’m curious how you sense the wind is blowing.

One of two featured on a solid National Championship contender and a play away from being the featured guy if something bad happens. I dont get where he thinks he can go to be better positioned but its his career

ETN is our feature back, Feaster wouldn’t have been one in 2019. He likely feels he needs to get more tape out there for NFL scouts and he wouldn’t have as much of an opportunity backing up ETN with Lyn-J eating up some of his carries.
Somewhere like Iowa St that’s replacing a really good RB where he can go in and start and get 15-20 carries/game makes a lot of sense

As for Feaster, will miss him if he’s gone. He is electric and fun to watch. I think he has done great things for us, but I feel like there is a touch of unmet potential that I hope he gets. Admittedly not much of an nfl follower but he seems like a good pro prospect to me with his speed, ability to run, potential with short passes etc. I’d love to see him at that next level. Go Tigers!

Really hope he stays. In my opinion he is clearly ahead of Lyn-J as far as being a complete back and he brings something different than ETN. Not a killer if he leaves but would love to see him finish out his career here and win another National Championship vs touching the ball 20x a game and wearing his body down for no reason.

I hope he stays because I feel like he can make positive contributions for the team on and off the field. Prayers for Feaster as he makes his decision. I hope he decides to stay and Dabo can find ways to use him this coming season. Feaster is a great kid and a team player. Like Willy Korn he has just had some bad breaks.

I know that it's about the PT and getting noticed, but going to a Power 5 conference team and getting the ball 20+ times a game is a tough task---especially after not going through Spring Practice to get a grip on the offense. To go to smaller school, maybe they can track you down & follow you, but kinda risky to find the spotlight. I believe that J-Lyn fills in for ETN, but Feaster is a different style of runner to contribute in his way with 10+ carries a game. Also gives Mellusi a chance to redshirt and step in the next year with Bowman (hopefully).

Most undergrad programs can be done in about that time. Only some specific engineering/architecture (ie not the B.A. in Arch) are the "5 year" programs lacking summer key courses that take longer. That is more about timing when some courses are offered vs the actual credit hours.
One person in my masters program did the econ route in 2.5 years... and our masters program often took 2 years (56+ credits). I think they graduated with a non-consecutive masters the same time their roommate did with only an undergrad.
Heck, I was the 2nd fasted PhD in my program at exactly 4 years but a classmate did it faster due to challenges with their international status (issue at home). So a Ph.D in 3.5 is plausible too but it normally takes twice as long.

Alabama platoons their backs and they still get drafted pretty high. If you're at a high profile school and the talents there the scouts will see it.

Alabama hands the ball off 40+ times a game. and throws it like 17. We throw it 40+ times. And most of the second team isn't even playing after half time. Alabama Plays their running backs all game long regardless.

Tavien is a fine young man and outstanding football player. I sure hope he stays, but I think we will have plenty of guys that can step in his place. On the downside, from his perspective, is that he probably can't name a former Tiger who transferred in their senior year and became a featured player anywhere else. There may be some, but I can't think of any. Every D-1 school has good running backs that will know the system better than Tavien. If he wants to go to the NFL, he will not be overlooked if he stays here.

Yes, plus the two RB system is here to stay. Maybe somewhere else he's RB1 but RB2 will still get carries to keep guys fresh. Look at Bama's rotation?
I really don't see the logic here because he's still going to get plenty of carries, unless he's now worried about being RB3, which would be odd, understanding how Dabo works.

ETN had 204 carries last year as our starter while Feaster had 78. This is through 15 games. There was 50 backs with 200+ carries last year with many only 12-13 games. Feaster could certainly find a school that with almost triple his number of carries. He has won 2 nattys he is trying to show his talents and it is harder being behind a heisman trophy contender. We would love to have him and he would certainly help again this year but it wouldn't be the wrong move for him to find a team he could where he would start.

if he chooses to go elsewhere to hopefully get more carries/exposure.
I get it, when you're a talented player, you want to play. He might get to play more if he transfers somewhere else. However, he also might not get to play more elsewhere.
There are certainly advantages to staying at Clemson. He already knows the coaches and his teammates, so there is no uncertainty there like there would be at a new school. There is certainly something to be said for familiarity. Also, assuming he is the bona fide second back on the depth chart, he will still get plenty of carries in our offense. He will get exposure without the wear and tear of being the #1 guy. And finally, since we are the top program in college football, he will still have a chance to workout for pro scouts and show them what he can do at his pro day and at the NFL combine.
I wish him the best whatever he decides, but I certainly hope he stays.

I hate to see him go if that's what he decides is best for him. He's been a big part of two National Championship wins and 3 ACC championship winning teams. Tavien will always be a Tiger no matter what he decides.
