It's been a decent car, V6 & 6 speed automatic w/tech, AWD, 97K miles, But no music will come out of the speakers. A blue tooth phone call works, radio lights up, won't make a sound. CD player (lol) won't make a sound. Bluetooth music from phone won't make a sound. Rilly fancy all-in-one head unit w/ nav etc that I ain't messing with. Their preliminary offer is $10,400, I'm good wit dat, ready to move on. I usually have no prob selling cars to individuals, but don't want to deal with trying to sell with no radio.

Several people recommended selling to them, we'll see. Anybody sold a car to them, or any dealer?

like they were in 2022-ish but if you aren't buying something else CarMax will probably be as easy as anything. IF getting a new ride, get the CarMax quote then go to the dealer. I'm 2 for 2 in the dealer beating, just barely, the CarMax price without me showing them said price. I'm sure they have some way to find out though.

car dealer bidness still seems like it's not back to normal, inventories look better. But I think they can make money, even taking it to auction, at that price. They prolly have other connections they can sell to, like new car dealers do.

Looks to be a reasonable wholesale price.

So, many years ago (over 12) I took my MIL's Honda CRV that was 8 years old

but only 50,000 miles on it. They basically gave me an auction value. The story was they did not sell cars that old. I sold it to a co-worker's relative for 2,500 more than their quote.

Good luck.

Theyre always going to offer wholesale (auction) value.

They aren’t going to give retail or private party value on it, there wouldn’t be a business case for that.

offered for Sharkgirl's extremely old Jeep Liberty. I think it was the the first year for them and we got rid of it in 2017 or 2018. Total POS but the glass in it was worth more than $500. Sadly, I don't have connections at a junkyard. We also weren't real sure the vehicle would make it back home or back to CarMax so I told her to take the $500.

Is the extra one can make from selling privately really worth dealing with people these days?

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I guess it pays around $500/hr.***

cars to private parties, the higher you go over $10K, the more potential buyers you lose. People shopping for a car on Facebook or seeing one on the side of the road can get sketchy about coming up with the $$$. Not all of them, but a lot of people buy at dealerships cause they'll do all the financing and paperwork.

Never sold to Carmax, but have twice used their price as starting point to resell elsewhere (once private party, once as trade-in at dealership)

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

sold my last vehicle to them, $3k more than any trade

it was a 2017 BMW X5 and they gave me $3,000 over what anyone was offering in trade... was a no-brainer

really easy process, although they did something weird with the funds... some were available immediately, some on some kind of hold for a few days

assuming you did the on-line pre-process?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

yes. That's how I got the offer.***

CarMax is great. If you don't mind the headaches and hassles, and want to hold out for the best possible price, then deal with an individual.

yes, in September sold my high mileage truck. they offered 10k online and when i showed up they cut me a check for 10k. no problem at all. had to wait for eval. make sure your car is clean when you take it up there. be ready to turn it over. dont be surprised by what you see and hear in the waiting room. its almost like the DMV back there.

There are youtube videos on how to fix those issues. I replaced the factory radio, bluetooth, and added a GPS receiver. Speakers work though, but they're much easier to replace.

With wifi hotspot I basically have an 10.5" Android tablet/pad on my dash, with radio stations, bluetooth for calls, GPS, Google maps for navigation, and it is far superior to even Android Auto. I had to disable Android auto on my phone and if I connect automatically with a hotspot (Tasker app does this seamlessly), it's really cool.

I have found some apps will not install on it, for obvious reasons. Hulu, for example, and Disney, ESPN, etc. Apps for TV's won't install as Google knows it's for cars only. PLEX does install however, and I have full access to Plex live TV channels and my Plex server anywhere. But I only watch Plex eating lunch somewhere. Never use while driving as it's distracting.

Process goes like this:

for some info, they said their notes said, "not compatible wafter market". Saw used ones on ebay for $150. but I didn't want to tear into it. This is my only experience w/ Honda/Acura, and apparently they have various codes to deter theft of audio systems. This is the only time I've ever had audio problems in a car, and it was the final straw with some other irritations.

He can drive it until the wheels fall off. At least he will have an awesome radio. he already has plans for new speakers though. He helped me install the head unit.

I think I will be disappointed though with whatever stereo is in the new car I get thi syear, as I've been spoiled. But as long as it has Android auto i can live with it.
