the offense on the other hand...not so much.
And we have major QB issues right now. DJ hasn't been anything like he seemed to be last season and Taison seems servicable if put in there, but the QB position is one of the weaker positions on the field right now and its been a LONG time since that has been the case.

you said we have qb issues right now. So you do know.
The offense hasn't been in rhythm because the QB hasn't fully settled in yet. Dabo's teams always start slow and progress as the season goes along.
Not all QBs are the same. They all develop differently. We got spoiled with two generational QBs in a row.
DJ's potential is off the charts, but he's not quite instant Heisman candidate like some imagined. That's okay. You have to trust the coaching and DJ's potential to come together.

I get excited every time I hear coach do an interview because he says this team may be one of the greatest ever, and I wonder if what they are seeing in practice just isn't transferring to game day.

Not even close to the same. DW didn’t start out near as bad, but the main difference is he was already a proven Heisman finalist, conference champion, playoff game winner, and almost national championship winning qb. DJ is none of those.

Terrible offensive scheme and play calling has caught up with us because we no longer have generational qb and rb in the backfield.

I feel it too, but I think the leadership has t emerged. The O doesn’t have that Skalski leader, but have a feeling the youngsters are making their way to the top of that pile. Shipley and Taylor to name a couple.

Step back from the cliff. Here are early scores from the 2016 an 2018 Championship seasons. 2016 2nd game Clemson 30-Troy 24 (could have lost) 2016 3rd game Clemson 59-SC State 0 2018 1st game Clemson-48-Furman 7 2018 3rd game Clemson 38-Ga. Southern 7
Why do so many people expect DJ to be a world beater this early in his career? We will be ok and if the right teams keep losing, we will have a chance to get back to the Playoffs.

Not sure what most of those games have to do with qb struggles.
The reason for concern is because the offense, specifically DJ, doesn’t look anything like those previous years where we were able to put it all together. Not saying we can’t, but this offense looks bad right now. There’s no denying that.

There are several reasons why people expected him to be a world beater.

1. He was a 5 star, all-everything QB in high school. 2. He had a year to learn behind Trevor last year. 3. When he played last year, he looked fantastic. 4. Our coaches have repeatedly told us throughout spring and fall practice how ready he is and how great he will be.
You can’t blame fans for having high hopes. By just about any standard, DJ has disappointed thus far these two games. Here’s to him bouncing back and figuring it out.

Deshaun had a will to win and clutch gene only the the greatest of the greats have. Trevor came in with NFL level arm talent straight out of the box. Both those guys are NFL franchise QB talents. 5 stars come out every year that won’t sniff their level.
DJ #### his britches against UGA. It’s probably the first time he’s been overwhelmed in his athletic career. Even with that said, go back and watch the UGA highlights. DJ made NFL tier throws that your boy Taisun doesn’t even make in his dreams.
He only needs to work on between the ears. He showed he could do it last year. We have no reason to think these two games are what he really is. He’s an Uber talent that is hitting his first bit of rough sailing. I firmly believe he’ll correct the ship. Give him an ounce of the understanding that you throw Brownells way.

I hope you are right. But, in the first two games he has looked really stiff, and for lack of a better description, mechanical including, but not limited to, his handoffs to running backs.
Further, I agree with the original post and posted the same last week. My point then, as it is now, is that something has seemed off to me for some time but it is far more apparent with the start of this season. Again, I hope I am wrong but it seems to be more than DJ - the spirit, fire, aggression and sense of offensive juggernaut is missing.

The stiffness and mechanical nature screams athlete stuck in his head to me. It’s a confidence issue for him. He’s thinking through every little step instead of just doing it. I’ll also say I’m not looking for him to be Deshaun or Trevor and never expected him to be.
I do agree about something missing. I’m much more concerned about TE than I am DJ. Even with Trevor back there, our offense has looked to be without an identity for a few years now.

His struggles last week were mostly blamed on the offensive line and receivers. Sure, there were mistakes he made that people pointed out, but I don’t recall anyone blaming him for the loss.
Today was supposed to be his game to get into a groove against an overmatched opponent. He wasn’t asked to make many difficult plays today, but despite that he didn’t look very good. When both backups are throwing better balls than the starter, you can’t blame people for noticing.

Well when the presumptive starting QB and RB, who are both taking over for all time greats, have been bad or missing almost entirely, respectively, you are going to have a bit of a mess on your hands.

Brother if you can't see LJD is the best RB

[ in reply to Re: Elliout not able to call good games is one. ] |

On the field then I can't persuade you otherwise. Last week someone said LJD didn't take it well that he wouldn't be starting. Is there truth to it? Sure seems like it since Dabo deflects it being a problem between CJ (a rookie coach) and LJD.
Only going by what we can see on the field it seems pretty #### clear the guy who did start was no where near as good as LJD.
