Something is not right in Clemson
Dec 8, 2021, 7:35 PM
|
|
It's been noticeable since the beginning of the year. Something is off. Different body language from Dabo. Maybe complacency?Nothing has seemed normal. Players, mainly offensive, not giving effort. The only consistent has/was Venables. Understand his leaving for Oklahoma. Elliot considering UVA and DUKE? Dead Ends. He's been offered much better jobs.
There seems to be discord amongst the coaches and players. There is just to much money involved. Brian Kelly getting 15 MILLION per year. He's not a fit @ lsu.
Hope I'm wrong, but I think there will be more news about our athletic program come out. Where there's smoke.. Just too much going on. I know Radocovich is a Miami alum, but Clemson is a much better job. Just all the defections at once?
Thoughts?

What other jobs has Elliott been offered? Are you his agent and know for a fact other jobs offered? TIA.

Yea, I'm his agent. You need one?
It's common knowledge he's been offered quite a few jobs. Leave his alma mater Clemson @ 2+ million for Duke? Or Virginia?
Logic says all the defections and possible ones at once are not coincidental. No defections since Dan Brooks retired and Marion Hobby left in 2016.

So what is it? Talent drop? A fat QB who stinks? A HC that’s to stubborn to adapt to the changes that ALL coaches have to deal with, not just him.

Post like yours TigerFreak especially with you being a newbie can only get started off on the wrong foot. Was it necessary to get personal about some of the coaches and players???
We have one year of adversity and still have a chance to win 10 games after 6 consecutive appearances in the 4 team CFP wining 2 of them playing in 4 of them.
You are either a troll, coot fans or another schools fan or you are just ignorant about what Dabo and his staff have accomplished over the last 10 years. Every team including Bama eventually goes through times of adversity. That is the time when true fans show their colors! This is the time to really show your support for Clemson. It’s easy to pull for a team when they are on top but when they struggle that show’s what kind of fan you are. Many times some of the fans usually bail on the team during the times they need encouragement and support the most.
What kind of fan are you?

Your assumptions are void of logic but rather a result of troubled perspective shaped by your history of being sexually assaulted by another male family member + a brain of limited capability + 2 years of self medicating on bath salts. Your welcome.

I'm 62 years old, and came to Clemson in 1977 when I was 18 years old.
The only issue going on now is many of our football coaches are in demand. That just means we were doing a great job on the football field and our football leaders over the last seven years.

I'm 65 years old and came to Clemson in 1973 when I was 17 years old. Those were rough, but glorious years, when we packed the stadium every Saturday (no upper decks) even if we went 4-7 on the year. Most girls wore their best and most guys wore a coat and tie and "the girders were shaking!" all afternoon. In the late 70's Charlie Pell brought us some legitimate National recognition (and an NCAA probation, thanks to Vince Dooley), but Coach Ford brought us there and where we are today. I sorta' miss those days when Clemson fans were simply all about the team and our University, and where the Tigers Play, instead of all the ACC and National Championships and current expectations. Don't get me wrong, we've reached that "elite" status in CFB and I love it - and Dabo, and our NC's, etc., but geez, how about a little old fashioned Clemson Pride, as whatever happens, and keep any nasty criticism to you, or ourselves!
Go Tigers!!!

If everyone only cared about having fun on game day and just feeling lucky to see the tigers play if they win or not Clemson the school, the athletic department, the town would be 1/4 of what it is today and completely irrelevant to anyone outside of a 50 mile radius.

I thought the same thing. The energy coming from the offensive side was lifeless and bleak. They missed on a QB and bad no offensive line. Then the injuries. But that something wrong you talk about was evident against Georgia. Dabo seems really burdened by the transfer portal thing because it screws his philosophy on program building completely up. He may be unhappy or it may spark a fire as a new challenge.

We've never had a dominant offensive line though. Its usually countered by play making WRs, NFL QBs and pass catching RBs. Shipley and Pace are going to be fine. We are just lacking the outside playmaking and Cade should be the answer to QB. DJ is just a terrible fit for our offense.

It does make one wonder, but I think it’s just a perfect storm for multiple folks. Radokovich is a builder of facilities, we don’t need facilities and Miami does plus they want to pay him a lot. Nothing more there IMO. BV turned down Auburn last year and it was going to take the perfect job for him to leave. Unfortunately for us, OU was the perfect job. No one turns down OU who is currently a coordinator. TE has been passed over several times the last few years for jobs where he actually interviewed. He’s getting his chance and he is ready. Good for him.
It still sucks for us but I don’t think Dabo is surprised by anything that’s happened on his staff. I remember when Bowden hired a real estate guy to coach receivers and we were all like “what the …”. That worked out pretty good. I think Dabo has an eye for talent and he’s not promoting from within just because he has to - he has tons of options. Plus, I do think this new challenge may reinvigorate his juices to prove to folks he can still win. Hope I’m right.

What facilities does Miami need? Their arena is not that old. The baseball stadium is not bad. They play football in an NFL stadium.

The U doesn’t have their own football stadium. They bus an hour away to the Dolphins stadium. I’ll bet DR gets one built on or near the campus.

You do realize the AD is taking a job for more money and the other two are advancing their careers to be head coaches? Nothing seems not right. . .if anything it speaks volumes about the program when everyone wants to hire your coaches.
Alabama goes through the same thing on a regular basis. Should we assume something is wrong there too?

I felt the same. I could feel the flatness of the offense and could see absolutely no spark at all with the offensive players on sidelines. The guys seemed to themselves and little or no comraderie among them. THEN… something changed and the last 2 or 3 home games were different. Players all engaged, lots of talking, etc. Guys looked charged up - I am a football girl. Love the game, don’t understand some stuff for sure , but I do know the look of a team who is playing as one. We didn’t have it early but we did at the end and it was a thing of beauty!!! Go Tigers. !!!!

You know human nature. I sit on the 35 yard line just up from the offensive huddle. You are correct in that there did not seem to be any energy in the guys coming off the field especially early in the year. I think they got it fixed on the ride down I-26!

Skalski is on defense.
Looks like Shipley has begun providing that the last couple of games.
Ideally it should be the QB, but great to see anyone providing some fire.

Go Tigers. !!!!

Everything in Clemson is just fine. Everyone needs to calm down. They don't just hand out National Championships. We were fortunate enough to win 3, and in time will win another. Attrition is real in any business, and college football is a business. Clemson has a great CEO at the helm, just relax.

DJ Uiagalelei single handled destroyed the program. Lol.
You think i'm kidding, but i'm kinda not. We had a bad year, now instead of being in ACC CCG and playoffs its open us up to all kinds of interviews and hirings, and leaving.

You probably need to step back and gauge your objectivity when you say the Clemson AD job is much better than the Miami AD job. First, it's Miami. Second, that's home for him.
We all love our school but to unequivocally say CU is better than Miami shows some irrational thinking.

Dabo is getting tired of the free for all gaining steam in college football, but he said just this season he hopes that will be eventually be reeled in, and he hopes to coach here a long time. As long as we'll have him.
The offense has been lacking fire and function from the key position on the field. We improved at several positions and won 9 games after being 4-3 and looking like wheels were coming off.
BV wasn't going anywhere until his premium job came open. It did.
Elliott told us he didn't feel ready for a step to Tennessee last year. Maybe this year he's ready for a position at a school where he can learn to be a head coach and there won't be so much pressure.
DRad is leaving for a new challenge and a lot more money. It's been his career M.O.
Nothing is wrong in the athletics department.
The only smoke here is coming from your bong. Good stuff bro.

Which players on offense weren’t giving effort? Was it Ross who played hurt all year? Was it DJ who played with a hurt finger and knee? So which players specifically?
I’d say if a large part of this team wasn’t giving effort then we would’ve seen things fall completely apart after the Pitt game instead of us winning out the way we did.

Clemson is not better when DRad can make almost 4X as much anywhere else. Baby, it's all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$. Also, what better jobs has TE been offered? And, what does Brian Kelly have to do with Clemson?

No doubt about that. But we all need to remember that we have been the absolute gold standard in success and continuity over the past decade. Things are busy right now but the reality is the two VITAL pieces upon which all else were built remain; Clements and Swinney.
Things will change, things will evolve, but one thing will stay the same; Clemson will be a player in college football.
With all that said, we’re not in the top 20 when it comes to NIL potential. If that continues to evolve in a direction unfavorable to Clemson, we’re sunk.

Brent turned down the Auburn job, so it was just a matter of time before he left. The perfect scenario at OU developed for him, and he took advantage of it. https://www.si.com/college/2021/12/06/brent-venables-turned-down-auburn-job-daughter-oklahoma#:~:text=When%20his%20daughter%20inquired%20about,Auburn%5D%20that%20we%20have%20hereThe new Oklahoma coach was a candidate for Auburn's coaching vacancy last year. .
Radakovich was probably never going to get the money from Clemson that Miami is paying him. He also has ties to the school, having obtained his master's degree from UM. UM is spending, DRad is taking.
Tony Elliott has had a lot of job-related pressure this year. Mendenhall's seemingly sudden departure left UVA in need of a coach, and he has made himself available.
While it does feel like the situation at Clemson has snowballed, timing is everything. It's been a coaching carousel year in college football--like none I can recall.

I don’t think there is something wrong.

It seems to me that this year was a perfect storm of recruiting misses, scheme issues, and injuries, which resulted in the disappointing (by our standards) season we had.
I don’t think player or coach effort was an issue, and I don’t think it’s fair to question it.
I agree that Dabo doesn’t have the same fire he had 10 years ago, but that is to be expected. He’s 10 years older and wiser. Look at him, the job has taken its toll.
He clearly still has fire though. When I look at him, I don’t see someone who is complacent or who doesn’t care. Not at all. What I do see is someone who comes across as stubborn and set in his ways. For that reason, it appears that he has surrounded himself with yes men. I hope I’m wrong about that.
As for assistants leaving, Venables probably had several jobs on his list of dream jobs. I believe Oklahoma was one of those. I think he would’ve taken it, regardless of what is going on at Clemson on or off the field. Elliott probably realizes that he better take a head coaching job soon while his stock is still high. He doesn’t want to go through another year of poor offensive output like we had this year.
And yes, I agree that coaches make too much. But with all the money being thrown around in college football, from TV contracts to endorsement deals, I’m not sure they are as overpaid as it might seem.
If a top head football coach makes $10 million a year, is that really out of line since top professional athletes make three times that?

There’s something wrong everywhere all the time. Sometimes it’s manageable and sometimes it’s not. Think about your own family and work situation. Hmmm?
My bet is that as smart and deliberate as Dabo is , he can handle it.

I still believe everything will be fine, as Dabo has built his program on a solid rock foundation.
But, if we’re being honest with ourselves, there is cause for some concern.
