We have plenty of NIL money, as well as an NIL center and collective strongly supported by the CUAD.

We are sixth nationally in NIL average per player.

We have plenty of money for NIL. This shouldn’t be surprising. After all, we pay our head football coach $11 million a year, second highest in college football. Our budget for our entire coaching staff is among the highest in college football. We have arguably the finest facilities in college football.

Our football program has resources and advantages most football programs can only dream of.

These are things to be proud of! They are the result of a university, athletic department, coaching staff, and fan base who have worked hard to get to this point.

I’m not sure why some of you are so insistent that we are poor and have no NIL money. The only reason I can think of is that you like to think that we are a blue collar school and fan base, always fighting for respect from the “elites.” That, plus it gives you a ready-made excuse to fall back on when we lose a recruit. That’s an easier pill for you to swallow than placing any responsibility on our coaches.

I could be wrong, but I don't think any NIL money can come directly from the school's coffers. It has to come from the outside.

But the question I do have is can NIL money come from outside the state?

Thank you judge Keller. I'll add that it's very damaging perception to push. Public media, podcasts/radio, YouTube etc push that narrative enough. We certainly shouldn't push it either. Hearing or reading it may deter the next Trevor Lawrence from even giving Clemson a chance. And that's not just football.

As judge laid out, have one of the best. We as fans should promote it and be proud of it.

You keep posting that we’re 6th in NIL money, but the only source you provided to show this was from over a year ago and made zero sense. For instance, it says the average Bama player was making $52,000. If you were to multiply that average by 85 players you’d have a total of $4.42 million for the team. The source says that Bryce Young was making $3.2 million and Williams was making $1.6 million. Well, those 2 players alone would be making more than the entire team so that already makes no sense. The same is true for the 3 individual Ohio State players it listed who made more than the amount the source said the entire Ohio State team was making.

Citation required on NIL ranking. I don't buy it, and no one is required to disclose those figures. Texas and other huge enrollment schools have at least an order of magnitude more money at their disposal.

I agree with you. I need to understand NIL better. However, I have to believe that top schools like Texas and Michigan have big national brands and significant money behind them. I am not convinced we have the same magnitude of resources. Clemson is somewhat less aggressive in portal usage as evidenced by our transfer gets vs other colleges. Our HC has employed a more targeted approach to the portal, but limited use for sure. Desire and money are certainly drivers here.

Being ranked 6th currently is really good, but it does not tell the whole story. Currently we are competing with the rest, but there are several schools that have not tapped all of the resources they have for NIL yet either. Has Clemson? I do not know that answer. I have heard we are stretched as far as we can go, but I have no inside knowledge to know that. NIL is still growing for many though, and I sure hope we can keep up with it as we have so far, BUT what we can't keep up in is conference money. Clemson and all other ACC schools are about to be way behind in that regard. If you think that will not hurt, then you are not being honest with yourself. The reason Clemson and several others want to leave the conference is they know this monetary difference is going to be very hard to overcome. So, I agree NIL for now is not an issue, but it soon will be if we do not get out of this conference. The big money supporters of NIL will start to back off and we will start to fall behind if Clemson doesn't find a way out. That is just facts. I will be a Tiger fan regardless of any of it, but reality is we will begin to fall off over the next few years if changes do not happen.

Nobody thinks we are sixth nationally in NIL resources. Continuing to repeat nonsense over and over doesn't make it true. I think we have above average NIL resources for sure, but above average means we aren't going to be able to waltz into the portal and snag whoever we want, which appears to be a major gripe with the program at the moment from the same crowd that appears convinced Dabo is sitting on a big pile of cash he'd prefer not to spend so he can go 9-4 the rest of his career. Sometimes the truth hurts.

I don't think it is a matter of "can't compete" but a matter of we won't cross the line to compete, like many others are doing. When you see guys entering the portal one day and the next day they are signing up with another program, you know they have been tampered with. The schools hire third parties to do the recruiting for them so it isn't tied to them directly, and then they immediately close the deal as soon as a prospect has entered the portal.

Rightfully so, we don't do that. However, it is a form of "competing" that still takes place so technically speaking, we are "not competing" from that perspective.

Exactly. Retention is the goal right now. Then the portal is selectively filtered for a few players that can help the roster while not becoming a major bidding war. You can see that from the current players that have announced offers thus far.

The remaining collective is 110 Society. It is endorsed by IPTAY and CUAD. It’s a step in the right direction. It’s been structured so that in the future IPTAY can assume control when NIL rules are changed. However, the collective needs more participation from the larger Clemson fanbase same as IPTAY’s reach. How do I know this? I have spoken to one of leaders of the prior NIL collectives that is in full support of the transition to 110 Society. He worked on NIL contracts with Clemson athletes for the past two years. He is very knowledgeable about where Clemson stands on the NIL landscape. We are making progress, but not where JK would portray. The valuations shown on websites are basically fiction. They have no verified data about Clemson NIL.

Please understand I’m not trying to create a perception that Clemson is way behind, just trying to make others understand we are not yet where we need to be and willing participation beyond deep pocket boosters is needed.

My current complaint about 110 Society is the lowest level of recurring donation is set higher than what I used to do. With the prior collective it was possible to contribute $25/month specifically to women’s sports (basically softball) and $25 into a more general NIL fund. That kind of entry level pricing and flexibility to direct the funding was a good place to start for Clemson with so many rightfully skeptical about supporting NIL. Monthly budgets are really stretched after this run of high inflation. I do think 110 Society is missing the boat on getting broader participation, but hopefully they have done their homework on how best to launch successfully.

The only data point that I have heard publicly that I believe was from Coach Day a couple years back. I believe he told OSU boosters that it would take approximately 10-12 million/yr to retain his roster. I’ll bet it’s escalated since then with all the tampering going on.

Agree we should not conflate coaches salaries and funds used to build/renovate facilities. The only overlap is people the CUAD and IPTAY approach to generate the funding. Thus, you can see where closer budgeting priorities between traditional athletic funding and NIL funding is a must, especially at Clemson where the alumni base is a smaller pond than the blue bloods we compete against. You’re asking the same group to fund both, so you better be able to explain the priorities and make it make sense.

I agree that most posters here seem to think we can’t compete. The CBS cover 3 podcast team mentions it frequently. Clemson is very competitive with top teams for NIL; However, Dabo will not cross the line into pay for play and where you see most of the news for NIL is in that space.

We are making sure players coming back to Clemson are getting NIL deals and telling recruits what our current players are making instead of offering them a paycheck. Honestly the same has been said for UGA and Bama. I don’t know if they have a firm stance against tampering, but they are using NIL funds in a similar way.
