Softball offensive struggles

I hate it but this softball team has gotten no better offensively than they were on their initial season. In fact, I think they maybe worst. I would hope in year #5 you would see some much improved offense production. Right now I just don’t see much development when it comes to hitting. I hope I am wrong. But just look at the number of hitters in the lineup batting in the .200’s.

Is this where we start the Fire Rittman campaign? Let me know if it is. I don’t want to miss out.

Where did anybody even suggest such a thing. But, at some point there has to be some development on the offensive side of the game. They are no better offensively now than they were their first season.

Softball started in 2020. In four years prior to 2024, they have achieved a win pct of .776. That’s phenomenal in case someone didn’t know. Hall of Fame numbers.
They have made 2 consecutive super regionals. Since there were no postseason games in 2020, that means they have made super regionals in 2 out of 3 years of their existence. Somebody’s doing something right.

Nobody is questioning what a phenomenal job Rittman has done. They might not be another coach who could have started a team from scratch & done a better job. But, if the goal is reach the College World Series which they haven’t been shy this year stating that was the goal, you have to be better offensively. That’s all I am saying. Maybe I am wrong but I don’t believe they are any better offensively than year one. I really do hope I am wrong in the worst way.

There are concerns. Lets let the season play out. At this point in the 2024 season the hitting has been a problem. If the goal is the world series then there's a problem.

I understand. Thanks for explaining your position a little clearer. It’s okay to have concerns, but I just think there’s enough to be positive about. Let’s hope they work out any issues and have a great season. It’s a long way to go.

Yes. No one is saying we haven't over achieved. But this area was starved for softball. One of the fastest growing sports in America. It doesn't surprise me that we've done this good. But the biggest reason we have is Cagle. One of, if not the best ever Clemson athlete in any sport. For what she's accomplished. Plus, because we're new, our schedule is weak. Because of our accomplishments, we've been able to host regional.
Not saying we're not a good team. Most are saying, like Dabo's equity he built up, he was able to capitalize on it and continued to go next level. We haven't really done that the past two years. This year we had a golden opportunity to get some transfer bombers.
Knowles was a highly regarded recruit for hitting. Is she developing?

Knowles is a true freshmen. She doesn't concern me, it's Logoleo, Clark, Moore and the others that's been in the program for a couple of years that have digressed at the plate.

There is no development. Rittman has been riding on Cagle’s success and the team being lucky with weak competition.

We lost 2-1 to a top five tram on their home field.

Jstone, I'll gladly spell it out if you want to have an honest, uncolored glasses debate on the concerns. They're not one offs.
In summary. We've played 3 (currently ranked) top 25 teams. Lost all 3. We were a consensus top 6 team. I fully expect mizzou and miss st to fall off. If anything, they'll be at the bottom of the top 25.
Totals We've had 18 hits in 22 innings, 1 homerun in b7 with 2 outs against miss st. All 3 games we were gifted freebies and errors. Effectively We've scored 3 earned runs and 2 unearned runs in those 3 games combined.
Va tech beat uga and lost to uga. Both against the pitchers we faced. They were 7-5, 5-4 games... and neither game was Va tech gifted more than 2 freebies. Look at how many we had.
The above lack of offense doesn't end with t25 teams. It's putrid with average teams.

CGA ..... you are right on the money! I think John Rittman has done a fabulous job and winning 75% of our games is an amazing feat. But I think John would even admit that the program will ultimately be judged by how we play/compete with the upper tier softball teams, not by how we do against the lower tier teams that we have feasted on.
I'm concerned that our batters are not "driving" the ball. The slap hitters are fine for setting the table, but we need hitters driving the ball, hopefully in the gaps. The slap hits and bunts (which we have not been real good at) are fine for getting on base and moving runners, but not a substitute for hitting the ball hard. Even the run we scored on last night was a weak line drive to right center. Kudos to Clark (I think it was her) for the hit.
Lastly, yesterday's game reminded me a bit of one of our games with FSU last year (maybe the ACC tournament) where FSU started one pitcher and changed every couple of innings so that each time the Clemson players cycled through they were getting a different look. Finally they brough in Sandercock, I think, to finish. I thought it was a brilliant coaching strategy (basically because it worked). I think the only difference in yesterday, is that all of UGA's pitchers seemed to pitch a lot alike, as opposed to the FSU pitchers that were totally different in their pitches.

Like not even making them sweat. Examples being Alabama, Oklahoma State, FSU, Duke in our biggest games. Scoring 0-2 runs in all of those games.
The only exception being game 2 vs Oklahoma last year where we exploded for 7 runs.

You guys are loosing sight of the important things that really matter to the ladies who play softball. Walking a circle after every Pitch, now That matters. Wearing balloon animals on your head, now that is so important. Placing your visor upside down, well that is just a necessary fundamental of the game.Doing coordinated cheers in unison in the dugout to show teamwork and solidarity, those things really matter. Laughing and yuking it up in the outfield between innings......ya gotta have that. Those things are way more important (obviously) than slamming a line drive to the wall or going yard with runners on base. If you are thinking of hitting one out with the bases loaded, maybe you should go take a break and freshen up your face paintings. (TIC)
