Coach. Kind of petered out as HC. And really you need about six years to tell if the head man is championship pedigree. With the exception being in Clemson basketball. Haha

I've heard that, but we weren't good at hitting under Monte.

Way too many strikeouts and a lack of situational and clutch hitting.
Don't get the, "Monte is a great hitting coach" claim.

I think the offensive approach is much better. Put the ball in play and make the defense work. No more swinging for the fences. Personally I like how aggressive he has them on the bases too. Win some, lose some, but again make the defense respect the fact that you will try to steal bases. Defensively there have been some head scratching moments for sure. Pitching is not good. I don't know if it is instructional or just pure ole LOFT, but if he can solve pitching, this team will be good down the road (after this yea).
Long story short, yes I think Bakich is better than Monte. Time will tell if I am right.

With the exception of trying to steal 3rd with one of your big boy hitter at bat and one out, or was it no outs. Either way, at that point everyone knew the uva catcher was good and had a gun. Hardest base to steal.
That said, definitely better than Monte. Monte was traval ball analytics that never "felt " the game. Bakich neck up strategy is what we needed. Pitching will get there.

Lee's best team was the one he inherited from Legget.
Hopefully Bakich's worst team will turn out to be the one he inherited from Lee.

Jesus, can we give the man a half a season at least. Obviously Lee left nothing on the mound and in the pen. As far as offensive approach I think absolutely but this team has been plagued with dumb fielding errors for a while. Eventually the players have to take their own heads out of their azzes.

People are going to form opinions but they're probably ill-informed at this point. Just not enough to go on. I know being at 12-8 isn't the kind of start people want but, amongst other challenges, our strength of schedule is ranked 2nd in the country. Our out of conference strength of schedule is first. No small challenge for a first year coach and a team trying to build a new identity. I see no reason to be a pumper and make positive predictions about this season. But I also don't see any reason to start expressing concern. Most of our losses can be hung directly on pitching. It was a known issue and there are no magic bullets. With the benefit of hindsight, I might question a couple of pitching moves. In each case he certainly went with the conventional decision.
I think if we want to have a discussion of Lee versus Bakich, we have to look at body of work. Bakich has two head coaching gigs before Clemson. At Maryland he took over a .500 program that hadn't made the NCAA tourney since 1971. His program improved each year. Maryland has made 5 of the last 10 NCAA tournaments after 50+ years without going. Does Bakich deserve any credit? Hard to say, he was only there 3 years. Michigan obviously like something. They had been below .500 for two years. They never had a losing record in his 10 seasons. Made 5 NCAA tourney in 9 opportunities and made the CWS for the first time in 40 years. Monte Lee's only gig was CofC. He made four regionals and one super in 7 seasons. Very similar to Pawlowski's 3 regionals and 1 super. Lee inherited a a successful program whose preceding coach went .664. Lee would go .687. Basically Lee held serve at CofC. If you factor in that Pawlowski had to do some rebuilding and had a couple losing seasons they're basically even. Pawlowski flamed out at Auburn. Lee flamed out at Clemson. Bakich has proven that he can rebuild. Lee failed to even maintain status quo. He inherited a program that had only missed the post season once in forever and a team with enough talent to make the NCAA tourney and win the ACC title. A much more favorable situation than any of Bakich's three jobs to date.
We know Bakich can rebuild. We know he can be competitive and successful in the post season. What remains to be seen is if he can rebuild Clemson into a perennial post season team with frequent runs into Super Regionals and the CWS. We know Clemson is an institution that is capable. And barring the handful of coaches already accomplishing those goals elsewhere, I don't think there are many more promising coaches than Coach Bakich.

aggressive approach. Doesn't seem like we are striking out as much. Unfortunately w/ very little pitching and a defense that is suspect at times it will be a grind. If he can somehow squeak out a regional appearance he will have done a heckuva job. A 0.500 record would be nice.

I think he needs to be given enough time to recruit his players. If by year 4 we still look like this he needs to be shown the door just like Monte.

It doesn't take 4 years in baseball.
Baseball just isn't a sport where you bring in freshman to develop them and expecting them to perform as seniors.
One or two years should be enough to see if he can recruit and develop pitching.

Well just looking at one player. Caden Grice hit .244 last year. That’s not good. So far this season his average is .323. That’s a big difference. I think coach EB told Caden to forget about the long ball and focus on base bits. He still strikes out some, but he is greatly improved. Most of our batters have improved outside of Wright seems to be in a slump. I think he will snap out of it. Now pitching is a different story. Hard to judge there. Monte had Gilbert last year who was very good.. I feel like outside of Ammons our best pitcher has been Smith who is a freshman. That would indicate the pitchers are still in work. Far as games go this season could be very different. We loss two games to UCF we could have won. They beat us two games in a row on a bunt and a throwing error. We had South Carolina beat in game 2 and bullpen couldn’t hold. We had duke beat in game 3 and bullpen couldn’t hold.. but the offense doesn’t give up. So my personal opinion Bakich is better.

Our season tickets are in the same section where most of the players' parents sit. We have asked some parents what the players think about him and have gotten very positive reactions. The team thinks a lot of him...at least the ones we have spoken to.

Trying to compare college or high school baseball in the south to the north or mid west is ludicrous. Baseball is huge in the south. High school and college baseball in South Carolina is akin to basketball in North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, and Indiana.
Michigan’s baseball field is under snow and ice the first couple of months of their season. They spend the first couple of months playing games on the road. Michigan is not a historically relevant baseball program whereas Clemson is.
These people are trolls!

Bakich accomplished more with a northern team than Lee did with southern team that takes baseball seriously. Lee seemed to be the right choice at the time; he proved he wasn't. Bakich may or may not work out, but he knows where the weaknesses are and is working to improve them.

Wow, extremely early to be asking that question--a few weeks into Bakich's initial season, compared to 6 years of Monte!
Also, the team Bakich inherited from Monte was quite a bit lower in quality across the board to the talent that Monte inherited from Leggett. In particular, I was worried about our pitching staff last year before Monte left, & we lost talent coming into this year with Bakich.
Even philosophically, it's too early to compare notes. However, I am impressed with his offensive philosophy. But it's still too early to see how its pans out this year.
IMHO, way too early to establish any kind of opinion at this stage--particularly, with such a weak/ineffective pitching staff! An "early comparison" won't mean much until the close of our first season with Bakich as head coach.

I'll take the bait. Short answer, yes.
However, I'm not convinced that Bakich is "the guy" to re-build the program. I get it, that's not a popular opinion. Yeah, some of the players' parents got into my ear about Bakich but they have their own agenda. I get that too. The truth is probably somewhere in between.
This year is simply going to be a salvage operation---Monte left the cupboard bare.
We should know definitively by year 3--certainly by year 4.

The offense is much improved. We have still had a couple of games where we couldn't get a key hit, but overall much better offense. Tbe pitching is not very good. I'd much rather lose 9-8 than 2-1. As long as you can hit you have a chance. I personally believe that there are still 4 or 5 players that Bakich wants gone. He is not going to tell them to go.,but playing is gonna be taken by freshman and it will all work out. Bakich is in this for the long haul. He's not a gamecock in disguise. Lee is now what he always was and that is a COOT!

All Monte’s teams can do is hit HRs - look at Clemson past couple years and look at the coots this year. When HRs dry up, things go South quick.

They also have great pitching depth.
But if equal talent/rosters, give me Bakich over Monte Lee and the ankle tattoo.

My opinion is Monte is a great assistant coach. He’s proven that. For whatever reason, his abilities did not translate to successful head coaching skills. He had every resource he needed to be successful at Clemson. Just didn’t happen for whatever reason.

My guess is yes but I was pretty excited when we got Monty too. I see Bakich as a young Legget. I just think Jack got too old and lost his fire.
