So is Deion Sanders a fraud? Or is he really legit?

To me he just seems like something that will fade out and will be a fraud. Right now he’s the cool thing but he doesn’t honestly care about the product he puts out in the world. If he did in deed care he would have honored the commitments of the players and then went after his own. He seems to thing he’s larger than life. He’s always been that way….

No, you do not understand. Shocker.
He is saying that Deion did not honor the commitments to the players that had already committed to Colorado.

Prime might be a little more aggressive with transfers than other coaches, but any coach taking on that job would be looking to turn that roster over as quickly as possible. Coaches don't have 3 years to waste.

If he can coach, motivate, develop, game plan, and create a winning culture, and he show improvement after three years, he would easily have that runway. Heck, terrible coaches get three years.
The only reason to do this is if you have zero regard for the academic side of college football (and hey…I get it…fee coaches really seem to anymore) or you want to make a big splash so you can get out of there to a top tier program.

Boulder is a beautiful place and town as well. I still own a house about 15 minutes away in Broomfield. A couple of tweaks and he can recruit well there. Barnett recruited Texas well.
Colorado’s undoing was the move to the PAC 12. No one in CO could care less about those PAC 12 teams.
I was a Clemson fan and the Buffs were my second team. Although Klatt makes it tough sometimes. Allot of tailgating in Boulder. The interest quickly faded when the traditional rivals went away.
Colorado and Nebraska was a big deal.
I really miss the old days of CFB.

1/2 of college football success is getting the best players on your team. He is excelling at that at an incredible level. Can he coach, who knows, maybe, probably, he was a darn good football player. But as long as he can continue to recruit and pulling some of the best players in the nation, Colorado will be a team to deal with, and will likely be in the playoffs very soon..

The fact that he's getting ANYONE to come to Colorado means he's killing it with recruiting.
He got them to 29th this year in recruiting in just a few weeks. They are #17 for 2024 right now on 247.
Previous 5 years:
47th 64th 36th 44th 53rd
Someone has clearly never played NCAA football on dynasty mode with a 1* or 2* school. Colorado hasn't had a top 25 class since the 90s, bro, and he's going to do it this year

He'll get a chance to show it on the field, and that's why playing the game is so important. If he's a fraud, he'll get exposed. Great rosters don't translate necessarily into success -- ask Texas A&M. He does not strike me as much of an Xs and Os (technical) guy, but he might be a force to be reckoned with if he can get someone like that on his staff. He could be a part of a new wave of true "players-coaches" (I hope not) -- you never know. They still have to play the game on the field!

Why do you hope he’s not a new wave of players coaches. Doesn’t that describe Dabo He’s a marketer and good at it. Prime is the act he uses to get to his goals. I think he will be successful. The rules changed a the perfect time for him and he is taking advantage of it

I agree that Dabo is also considered a players-coach, but Dabo was also an X and O guy and he had a CEO type plan too. He had a vision for his offense when he brought in Morris too. His emphasis on trying to score the last minutes of the 2nd quarter and first minutes of the 3rd quarter is simple but brilliant. I might be wrong, but I never was impressed with Deion&s analytical skills when he commented on TV. Game management is not easy - how many times have we seen NFL coaches mismanage their timeouts? Remember that Deion Sanders was selected as head coach at Jacksonville State with virtually no experience. And so, by a new wave of "players-coaches", I meant great players like Aaron Rodgers, JJ Watt, or Julio Jones suddenly becoming head coaches with little or no experience.

Dabo never called plays prior to being a head coach, therefore by the strictest of definitions he was most definitely NOT an X's and O's guy. Position coaches coach players, they don't call plays

Right. Dabo is not X’s and O’s. CEO GREAT and leader that people want to follow.like Mac Brown. Great values and recruiter. This is what makes him great.
Staying out of playing is essential.
The NIL may unfortunately do him and Clemson in.

I think you are right, if he can surround himself with good assistants then they have a chance to be good. Maybe not playoff good but they can go from 1-11 to 8-4 or 9-3 fast. Then it is a matter of getting to 11-1 or 12-0 by beating teams who have equal talent and equal coaching. I am not sure a top level coordinator is going to want to stay on Deion's staff for a long time and that may be the limiting factor.

Maybe the most narcissistic person on the planet, except for a few politicians which come to mind. Always has to be the center of attention or he will move on. Maybe the best overall athlete of our time except for Bo Jackson but a total showman and egomaniac. He has already failed at 2 attention getting endeavors, a TV show about his home life and being a Christian preacher. Other than politics, what better place for a narcissist to get attention than as a football coach. Gonna be an interesting show, fueled by the MSM which love Neon to the core.

And then bolt to a better gig. The way he bailed on JSU after all his talk about HBCU’s tells me everything I need to know about his priorities. They begin and end with himself. Maybe that will catch up with him, maybe not.

So according to you, since he talked about the importance of HBCUs and his commitment to the cause, he is required to stay there forever?
He took a job that is far superior to Jackson State. He moved on for a better opportunity. I would think that you would do the same if you were in his shoes.
He is donating half of his salary at Colorado this year to Jackson State for facility upgrades. If that’s not showing a commitment, I don’t know what is.

Deion's main goal is to promote his son. He walked in the door appointing him starter team leader and best player on the field. The kid may be good, but this will be a huge step up in competition. One of the current players asked would he be meeting with them, and his response was he didn't have time for that. Roster management will be his downfall an absolute portal team.

opinions of others" would certainly apply. He better have some very solid bridges he is using for his career, because he is burning bridges right and left.
Everybody, including Colorado, has to know that Colorado is just a quick stop along the road for Neon Deion. If, as expected, he has any sort of success there, he will bolt for a higher profile job elsewhere. (Or, who knows, Colorado is the POT state, he may be able to get high enough there to want to stay?)

I haven't been a big fan of his but I do have to give him credit for what he accomplished at JSU and for taking on the challenge at the University of Colorado. While I might not completely agree with all of his methods he is proving to be a guy who can recruit and get results.
Colorado will be a very long putt. He is completely re-tooling their roster and they will have a brutal schedule in 2023. If they could actually win half of their games next season, that would be a significant accomplishment and would probably force me to concede that what Deion is doing is really legit.

We will see if he can actually run a major program and either coach or hire good coordinators that can coach.
My guess right now is that he will get talent and squander it, but i wouldn't hate being proven wrong.

I was skeptical at first and thought he was just a sideshow paying that one FSU recruit to come to JSU, but now, he's starting to pull some bluechip recruits...
We're going to find out real soon if he's legit or not. He's not in the SWAC anymore, and CU has a brutal Pac-12 schedule next year. TCU, USC, UCLA, Oregon, OSU, and a prolly resurgent Nebraska out of conference.
If they're 1-5 after week 6, then he might be a fraud. If they manage 3-3, he might be legit.

He is legit enough to recruit a bunch of studs to Colorado. It will be more interesting a year from now. What happens if they have a mediocre or losing season? That will be the true test. Can Deion keep the underclassmen from jumping ship and continue to recruit at a high level ? Or will he just have a collection of portal players and a revolving door every year?

Deion is a winner & knows how to win at th highest level. He has vision & faith that he will win & win big. That’s a huge part of being successful, getting a group of players who buy into your vision and want to be apart of making it happen.
I believe he will make the buffaloes better than they have been in many many years. It’s possible he could over achieve but I believe he will at least be a contender in the PAC 12.
It’s going to be much harder to build & sustain in a power 5 conference but Deion is a motivated winner. He loud & in your face showtime and all that he has always been but he loves the kids playing for him.
My guess is he goes 6-5 to 8-4 and gradually builds his team.

He’s a fraud, reminds me of a cheerleader. All talk, huff and puff, recruit like magic, assemble the greatest team in the history of sports, and the poof…..as soon as the grind starts…the real hard part…dealing with personalities and kids who are changing for the better(and the worse), kids who are learning and improving and then getting injured and healing, he fizzles and shows mediocre results and has a book of “not excuses, just reasons” and a year or so later, moves on to the next program. Don’t put your money on anything he’s running.
