The whole state will be in mourning. She is so well loved and respected here. I hope she could remember that in the end.
Prayers to her family and friends.

64 is very young, and that is a HARD way to go. I saw it with my Mother-in-Law, rips your heart out.

Praying for Gods perfect peace, love and comfort to all who are touched by this loss. As she was tough and determined, I pray we will all be like that in reaching the most potential in our God given talents, as Pat strived those she coached too, by being determined to learn from those who came before us and trusting God to help us with strong work ethic to be our best and through love help those who come after us be even better. In Jesus name, Amen.

somehow managed not to get put on NCAA probation while most of the mens sports at the University of Tennessee were continually in hot water with their incessant, purposeful rules violations. Sure she reported secondary violations from time to time, oversights once she began competing with Geno Auriema and UConn whom she DID accuse of cheating (and reportedly sent an 8 page letter to the NCAA concerning), but she permitted nothing to go on in the nature of the egregious rules violations of unc's Sylvia Hatchell.
Considering the environment in which she worked, she brought a breath of fresh air into a putrid situatio n. The winningest basketball coach after she passed Dean Smith's total (for a short while anyhow) she managed to do it all within the rules and equally as important (are ya listening chapelhill??) THE SPIRIT OF THE RULES!!
RIP Coach Summit

Great article about an amazing lady and basketball coach. Appreciate you sharing this article. May she rest in peace and prayers for her family, including her former players who loved her so much.

My Ten Seconds with Pat Summitt

I was handling the tens-of-folks crowd that came to the court in Kailua-Kona (HI) and that was the same/only team entry. Pat held her team briefly and I offered a few words such as "It's so good of you to come over here for some games." She was gracious yet focused ... I think they were about to take on Iowa (but who can remember?). A few players after Pat was Freshman Chamique Holdsclaw and wow, did she ever project hardness bordering on mean. I did not speak with her. I did, though, pay close attention to Miss Holdsclaw's time in Knoxville and it was obvious that Pat Summitt's influence was very very beneficial. I watched the game sitting with Mrs. Marciniak whose daughter was a player ... and that daughter was an assistant in Gamecock land a few years back. All-in-all it was a wonderful sports experience that I will treasure always.

saw her once in an airport. She seemed in no mood to be approached so I left her alone. I would love to have talked but it seemed like not the time for that as she was preoccupied.

She could get such an intense look on her face that I would be scared to approach her. Lol
One of the local photographers said that during the games he always took pictures of her at a distance because he did not to get into her cross hairs.
