Unreal he's a soph. Thought he was likely a senior, but only watched the last couple holes of the tourney so obviously saw none of his back story.

Obviously his family is very well off since he already has a "sports psychologist" that he mentioned in his interview.
But my question relates to his amateur status which is defined differently by the Rules of Golf and the NCAA. It appears that he has a NIL deal with Taylormade (cap) and Adidas (shirt) that must provide him much more money than is allowed by the Rules defining golf amateurs.
Or maybe NIL is not considered as "earnings" or "winnings" which are limited by the Rules of Golf definition of amateur.
Anyway, he's a Helluva player and should go far.

Interesting question about the effect of NIL. My guess is since NIL doesn't affect the amateur status of other college sports, the PGA isn't ruling golf differently.

PGA doesn't determine amateur status or make the rules. The Royal and Ancient (R&A) Golf Club in conjunction with the US Golf Association are the ruling bodies of golf and oversee the Rules of Golf which contains the definition of "amateur".
PGA just runs professional tournaments with the exception of Masters, US Open, and British Open.
Anyway, his NIL will soon be in his past and so will Alabama

The NCAA. UsGA and R&A all permit a golfer to make money off endorsements. They just can’t take prize money from the tournament.

Most college golfers come from families that are pretty well off ..... some more than others ..... but every D-1 college golf team (at least the very competitive ones) have a sports psychologist that works with the team members. Clemson has one that they use, whom I think may live at Sea Island or somewhere like there. Maybe some of the Clemson pros use him as well.
Jack Nicklaus said that he had a sports psychologist, swing coach, putting coach, etc. etc. and said they all lived right here ..... and pointed to his head!

He was a Bama soph because he would be just nuts to not turn pro tomorrow. If he goes pro, he is eligible for all the signature events and all the majors except The Open which he will probably qualify for. The sky is the limit.

He might get The Open invite as the reigning US Amateur champ.

If stays AM he gets into The Open Championship. If turns pro he gets into the PGA. He gets into the US Open and Masters either way. He also automatic qualify into the PGA Signature guaranteed payday events. If he plays the rest of the season with Bama, he will miss 5 of those plus the PGA.
Loyalty to your school only goes so far.
