Just think, 2 years earlier he would have made DJU his QB.

I think this hurts our chance for Matayo Uiagalelei. I know Big Dave was/is a big Lincoln Riley fan.

That would be an interesting move. Lots of talent in Cali. It would also give him a lot of West Coast exposure if he's ultimately interested in going to the NFL.

I think that might be a mistake for him. However, he will have a nice nest egg if it does not work out.

Well he did say he wouldn't be the coach at LSU. But I guess they forgot to ask about USC. He must realllllllllly not want to play in the SEC.

1 of the ones that popped us was saying that Riley wasn't a fan of OU moving to the SEC & that was a major factor in taking the SoCal job

So this is why he said last night he will not be the next coach at LSU.

Thinking CBV last run in Norman did not end well

Not a whole lot surprises me anymore, so you never know. I think Brent is happy in Clemson and would rather not deal with responsibilities of a head coach. Just don’t see him returning to Oklahoma.

I’d be surprised if he left before Tyler graduates. And he’s a sophomore.

OU is a dream job for him, if they offer like rumored they will, he gone. He didn’t leave working for Stoops on great terms but he and the AD Joe Castiglione are still really good friends and great relationship.

You bring up a good point!
My first thought was: "why would he leave a place where he can get what he wants when he wants it"! In comes your post! Makes more sense now! Why have to play Bama, LSU, A&M etc. for a championship! That said, "Nick Saban isn't going to be at Bama forever"! I suspect they take a step back when he leaves! The landscape of college football is getting more like college basketball ( something I use to love more than pro ball; but now it's hard to watch unless it's the Tigers). NIL deals and more important the transfer portal - can teams with "deep talent pools exist"? How? When all the young talented players leave because of lack of playing time?
The PAC 12 might be a good spot for him to hide out honestly! You can seemingly always find a QB over there. Southern Cal is a National Title contender waiting to happen at any moment; as they still are the #1 destination for most kids on the west coast! Bring some defense Lincoln as even in the Big 12 they are starting to play better D.

This was my take as well. Riley has a much better chance building a premium destination program at SC with his offense and recruiting than doing that at Oklahoma in the SEC. If he can find a D coordinator and some defensive players he has a better chance to (a) make the CFP more regularly and (b) win championships at SC than being one of the half dozen tier 2 big money mediocre programs in the SEC. For that reason, I think it’s a smart move on his part. Southern CA isn’t a bad place to live on the salary they’ll pay him.

Maybe but with a 7 figure salary he might be able to figure out a way to live there.

Wonder if he’s going to leave them in Norman.
