maybe you were on a large farm, or just a small one, like we had. A couple horses, a few cows, pigs, goats, etc. What farm animal was the best watch dog?

For me it was my dad. If I farted in the middle of the night he would wake up.

Guinea hens.

Didn’t live on a big or little farm - just a country boy who grew up in Tigerville, SC….

The watchdogs were. We always had at least 2-3 medium to large dogs in our fenced back yard. My dad wanted dogs that would make you think they would tear you up if you approached the gate, but never wanted a dog that would actually bite someone. Most of our dogs fit this bill. This was when dogs lived outside even in the Lowcountry heat, instead of being considered children like they are today.

My opinion is very different bc, I wouldn't waste my money feeding a dog that wouldn't protect what was ours, and that includes being vicious if the threat didn't retreat.

My Rottweiler would bite, but, he would give a fare but convincing warning before, and if whatever he was warning didn't back away, they would get bit unless me or my wife told him, it's OK, and that's how he was trained.

I will tell anyone that's never had a Rottweiler, they are very protective with the pack they live with, and they are probably the easiest dog to train for what you want them to do, and they don't forget what they are trained to do. And anyone that has ever owned a Rottweiler knows what I've said is true!!!

I do know that they've gotten an unfair reputation of being this big vicious dog bc they're not. The majority population of Rottweilers are pretty meek unless they have been trained to do otherwise. It is a fact that they are protective of the human pack they are raised with, and they will probably attack someone if they were a direct threat to their human pack, but as a norm, they are actually very loveable animals just like most dogs are, they are just a lot bigger that could cause more damage if
they attack.

But like I've said, and any owner of a Rottweiler will say the very same, they are very loveable family pets that are "very easy to train", and they are protective of their human pack/family, and I think that any family would expect that from any dog breed they have as the family pet. With a Rottweiler, it's their size that intimidates most people and that's bc their bark sounds threating, and their growl is definitely intimidating, but you're not likely to get bitten by a Rottweiler unless you are being a threat to their human pack/family and they know the difference of just being social or being a direct threat, and their owners can easily train them to be what they expect of them!!!!

Yep, it's impossible to walk or drive up in a yard where there are a flock of Guinea's bc they see and hear well day or night, and as soon as they see or hear you they will raisehell. Believe it or not, but, they can also recognize the people that that are always around and a stranger, and if you're the stranger, everybody within hearing distance are going to know that there is a stranger in the area!!!
