Trevor Matich just went on record

and committed to saying that Kelly Bryant will be better than DW4. He noted that Bryant is a stronger runner, more like an RB, has made throws into tight windows, with the proper types of throws (angles, area delivered, and touch), and has made good decisions. He went on to say that the thing to watch for is the progression of Bryant's mental toughness, as Watson was the top QB in that department over the past two years.
Bryant is only going to get better and is already darn impressive. Some of the touch on the over the shoulder throws in the 20 - 30 yard range these past two weeks, with the opposing DBs all over our WRs, have been eye-popping, imo. Great catches by our WRs, as well on those plays. I am also impressed that Kelly's only int is on a batted ball that the DB who tipped it should have been flagged for pass interference.
VT will be a nice test in two weeks and I fully expect Streeter to have Bryant dialed in by the time FSU comes to town.
Go Tigers!

KB is a better runner, but DW4 is and will be a better QB

intangibles are through the roof. If you have 2 min to win a natty, you're picking DW4, and THAT is how to determine who is better.
That said, KB being compared to DW4 is all the proof we need that our staff is one of the best ever.

It's not like DW4 was asked to establish that in his first few starts. Such a concept is only known over time and Kelly hasn't even been in that position. Kelly hasn't made the mistakes that DW4 made.

Who is your QB? I understand right now it's DW4, but I just can't imagine that changing.

Legget helped that situation. Right now it is the Hunter Renfrow 3rd and long show.

on display so often. Cool under even the hottest of fire. Hard to be better than driving your team to victory against a semipro team on the last drive of the National Championship game. But, I will love watching KB try to eclipse that!

That is the mental toughness that Trevor mentioned to watch and said Watson was the best in the nation at the past 2 years.

I agree, but Watson also had a tendency to throw high, just like Bryant, especially early in games. KB's running game does give him a slight advantage, but the mental makeup of Watson is what set him apart. The once in a generation QB speaks to his talent, but also you don't find that mental toughness in many QBs. It has become obvious that Lamar Jackson does not have this attribute, hopefully the coaches offered KB because they saw something special.

Yeah, I'm going to give Kelly the benefit of doubt with his "youth" as the starter on those high throws at the first of last week. It was his first start on the road. I'm hoping he settles in down the road, as he gains experience.

just as often as KB. Some games he was lights out the whole game, but most games he had an accuracy slump at some point.

Until KB can get his screen balls down and not so dang high, he won't ever be better than Watson. Seriously he's like 4/10 on easy dump off screen passes... Other then that he just needs to continue to work on his touch and getting the ball out instead of taking a sack. He's definitely the KB I've been advacting for all summer. I knew he had it in him, it's a nice thing to witness.

He's still throwing high on short throws because he's throwing off his back foot. With that said, I'm very confident Streeter and KB will get that fixed in short order.

So far KB2 looks like a DW4 clone!!!! He is likely to struggle at some point, but so far I see no reason at all why he can't match the success of DW4, a feat I would have believed impossible 4 weeks ago. How Clemson just reloads after all the talent they lost to the NFL is a wonder to behold. I'm thinking that the most important thing is just to make sure we never lose Dabo Swinney! The only way I think that might happen is if Nick Saban retires.

Most everything Trevor has said about Clemson has turned out wrong. I wouldn't put too much stock in someone who said just last week that our only chance of slowing down LJ was to "pray...find religion." He also said our offense last year (at the beginning) "looked like a bunch of freshmen playing together at practice for the first time in rookie camp.” - yeah, that included DW.
Maybe the game helped Trevor see the light, but I doubt it. Way too early for this statement, although KB deserves recognition for great play so far.

The thing that really set Deshaun apart was his mental game and the fact that he could not and would not lose. I don't think that will ever be matched, but in terms of pure quarterbacking, you never know. Kelly's only scratched the surface.

Nothing seemed to phase him in a Zen sort of way. Kelly may develop that over time, but he is still a work in progress.

He is a work in progress, but he is doing a heck of a job. He is protecting the ball and winning games. Can't ask for much more, except to keep doing it and win another National Championship.

The 2 things he's doing better than DW at the time being is not turning the ball over and more accurate on the deep ball. Taking care of the football alone will help compensate for the things DW brought to the table, he was good enough to make up for the turnovers more times than not. But KB is only going to get better each game. Which is a scary thing for future opponents.

His short passes are consistently to high. That's dangerous. But I'm sure they're working on that. The future looks very bright.
