Jeremiah Alexander Update #2
Jul 5, 2021, 4:18 PM
|
|
On Friday I made the following statement with regard to Alexander "If he is a man of his word I like Clemson, but we will see. You can never count out Bama, let alone with an in-state kid". Alexander was a "silent" for about 3 weeks, he told the staff he was coming to Clemson; however, things have changed in the past 24 hrs. I would now be absolutely shocked if he goes anywhere but Bama. That is why I said you can never count out Bama, they have their ways.
-Just have to move on now.

Was really looking forward to him being a Tiger but this is the nature of recruiting. It is what it is.

Reminds me a lot like that linebacker we wanted a few years back... Dang, name escapes me now. Oh well, we got 3 days and he might change his mind again. Wish him the best and whoop his butt when we play em.

You’re thinking of Justin Flowe…we were high on his list and settled on that Oregon money where they have failed him with development and injury.

Yep that’s my biggest question. Who are we going after on the DL next? I have a feeling Shaw is also going elsewhere. Also 2023 doesn’t have an impressive list of DL talent. So we miss out on top players in the trenches this year we are having to hope for 2024 at best. I was hoping to pull one elite DE and DT in this class. Miss on Alexander and Shaw we’ll have to go after a Nyles pinkney and Jordan Williams type talent. While those were serviceable players they aren’t game changers.

2018 ? 19? All over again. One of them with the Belk fella etc. Get what we can and hope they develop. Didn't know that about the 23 class.

Just basing that off what I’ve seen on current rankings. Obviously that could change and there may be some kids Dabo and company have found that will become top talent. But normally the best of the best DL talent have already been recognized. We’ll see I guess

Umm I actually do know our history and I absolutely do not want to return to those days. In order to maintain the top 4 status we need to continue to recruit like we have these past few years. So I’m hoping we can go out and finish this class strong. Don’t know how I’m privileged and ungrateful for wanting to continue to be a top 5 team. You seem to the type that says well we’ve had a good run. Time to let someone else have a turn. Give me a break.

One good thing about the transfer portal

If coaches make ridiculous promises to players that they can't keep and/or lie about other teams, that player can leave and go elsewhere. At some point, Clemson will have a need and Dabo will utilize the portal.

I posted a year ago that I felt the Covid restrictions would hurt us more than most. I believe this will be manifested most in the 2022 class. However, we’re already making inroads for a strong 2023 class. Still think the 2022 class winds up top 15, possibly top 10. The guys that are 2nd and 3rd on our board are still studs.

But he would flourish in that 3-4 edge! He’ll be a stud wherever he goes but hopefully we can make some moves with Cyrus Moss! I love his 6’6 frame he’s a beast and would be nasty in our 4-3

Give me the top QB in the country over 5 top position players. DW4 beat 2016 Bama facing better Bama personnel at 15 of 22 starting positions. The Power Rangers changed all that in 2018 when Clemson had equal or better starting personnel.
Wish Alexander the best, but IMHO a superstar QB goes a long long way.

That really could be a possibility. I'm sure a lot of recruiters are using that. However, if the NIL stuff swayed it for him, then he's not Clemson material. Jmho. Next man up.

Totally disagree. NIL is money and everybody, especially HS age football players, will be attracted. I think this is the tool that the likes of Nick Satan and Jumbo Fisher will know how to exploit better than us. Dabo may be too "straight" to aggressively cash in on this new wild Wild West. Hope not.

Our staff is very good at identifying and recruiting talent. They dont miss much but they are not infallible. There are any number of reasons why you get or dont get players. The way they have recruited in recent years is amazing. I would never criticize them about recruiting any player.

Agreed. They've done really well in the past in the old system. Now they have to evolve to match the new game. This is the time of the transfer portal and NIL. Things are different now, and not in a way that favors Clemson. Dabo likes to target good kids from good families. The Clemson experience has always been a huge selling point to those kids, as well as giving them the tools to succeed after football, whether that's right after college or after a stint in the pros. But now Clemson has to compete with Oil Tycoons at UT or similar who will pay these kids outrageous amounts of money to be their spokesmen.
Dabo will have to evolve to these new standards. I actually don't know how Saban will do. There's a reason people with his coaching style fail in the NFL. Now you've got him having to work with millionaires who can transfer at a moment's notice if he looks at them wrong.

While he’s still “young” it’s disheartening to hear if you’re right and he was a silent commit. This is why Dabo always wants them to be sure. Most people now don’t stick to there word and don’t care about promises anymore. Sure he didn’t sign on the dotted line but man if you give someone your word then stick to it.
Good luck to him in his future endeavors.

Until the 8th gets here, Tigers should quit bashing on the kid or he may indeed drink the 'Crimson Kool-Aid'. While C-Paw has obviously put in a lot of time on his reports, let's wait until we hear the actual words come from the player.

I doubt that, just because you are taking anyone who will commit to you right now does not mean they are quality players. I think Clemson ends in the top ten, we will see where but the average player ranking should be top 5.

Easy come easy go! Wish him the best of luck-with whatever school he picks! I think people just to worked over this stuff. Dabo is 140-32 I believe since coming to Clemson That is 7 ACC Championships, 6 Playoff spots and 2 National Championships.
It appears that he knows what he is doing.
