say what you want to about this breed but i will never be convinced that they can or will be good house pets/family pets they are highly unpredictable no matter what environment they grow up in and I will always consider them a dangerous breed.

My neighbor has one.
I'm thinking about shooting it in the head with my .22 one day when they're not home. Kind of hate to go that far.
Seriously though they really should ban them as pets.

While we agree that not all pit attacks are because of the owner, we disagree about shooting a dog.
Especially if that dog hasn't approached you or your family.

I was joking about shooting the dog.
But I do have a little girl and a boxer that wouldn't hurt a fly that play in my front yard 200 ft from a pit bull on a chain.

You said "dogs take the personality of their owners.".
There are thousands of example of family pet pit bulls that attack children they grew up with.

I wonder about dogs that have no "owner." When they attack, who is it blamed on since they can't take the personality of the owner?
what about owners that have several pits but ONLY one of the pits attacks a person? Why didn't all the pits attack since they take the personality of the owner?

Skeeter, I've known people to have raised several pits but only have ONE get aggressive.
The excuse that it's always the owners fault is stupid and nieve.
If it's always the owners fault, why wasn't all aggressive? I mean how in the world did they raise several to be sweet and cuddly but one not to be? It can't possibly be that some are natural aggressive

It doesn't matter. The owner could be the nicest and most loyal dog owner on the face of the planet, but it's still only a matter of time before that ticking time bomb goes off and that pit attacks someone.
It's like dying. One day you're eventually going to die, and one day, a pit bull is going to snap on somebody. Just the way it is.

Without actively searching for them not many. If you train a dog the right way and provide it with enough exercise and attention it won't happen.
Also, your more than 50% statement is ridiculous as well. Do you have links to this or just the basic "Most dangerous dogs list?"

Actually, statistics show that Chihuahuas and dachshunds (and quite a few other breeds) bite more people annually than pits do. Most pit bites are a result of 1 of 3 things: (1)you were some place you shouldn't have been, (2) parents did not train/supervise their children properly in how to interact with dogs, or (3) you hurt or otherwise threatened the dog (or someone it loves) in some way. I have a pit that I trust with my life and I promise you he would severely hurt someone who tried to hurt a member of my family. That said, I would never let my 18 month old son interact with him unsupervised because after all my son is a baby and my pit is a dog.

Most pit bull attacks are on people that were welcome in the owner's home.
When your son grows up and has friends over and they are wrestling in the floor and your pit bull mauls the other kid what are you going to do then?
There are tons of stories out there of situations just like that.

I've read everything there is to read online on pit bulls from both sides of the argument. My neighbor has one and it freaked me out because I have a boxer and a kid that are in the yard all the time.
The statistics don't lie. They are dangerous.

Yeah. I see many people will argue all day over how sweet their pit is and that may be true but the law of averages doesn't lie .
I would never leave my kids alone in the same room as a pit, no matter how much I trust it. It only takes a few seconds.

Because depending on how old your kids were/are then that wouldn't be smart period.

Considering this thread is about PITS, I specified pits in my response.
there are many breeds I wouldn't leave alone with an infant however there are only a FEW that has the jaw build and strength to just about bite through a child's neck.

My point is you shouldn't leave a child alone with any dog until they have the proper understanding of reading a dog's emotions/how to handle a dog, especially if it's an infant.

They usually act just like their owner. I've seen some good ones that were rescued. The problem with them is that they are extremely strong. Another dog may act in the same aggressive manner and not cause the damage a pit bull will.

the thing people do not understand about pit bulls is there are so many different breds of them and you cannot tell the exact bred without genetic testing. Some breds are aggressive while others were used as "baby sitters" back in the day. Different breds were trained for different things. All pits are not the same but are all put in the same catagory. Genetic testing is expensive and people do not know what they have. Not enough homework is done when one owns the the dog. Do research and you will see what I am talking about
